Comprehensive Configuration
Stylish in function and design, the SPA942 supports up to four separate phone lines with independent configuration and registration for each. But the configurable possibilities don’t stop there. You can give each line use its own phone number (or extension) to use, or share a single number across multiple phones. And deploying the phone itself is just as open-ended. Dual-switched Ethernet connections allow you to provide one cable that the phone and PC can share. With the included Power over Ethernet (PoE) functionality you don’t have to worry about placing the phone near a power outlet, while being able to provide increased system uptime by providing power back up for your entire network from a centralized UPS.

Common phone features like call transfer, conference, hold, park, and voice mail retrieval are intuitive for employees to use, as well as advanced features like number auto-completion, call history, and user setting menus. A built-in, high-quality handset microphone and full-duplex speakerphone are selectable (and mutable) by multiple illuminated buttons. Line LEDs indicate the status of each individual phone line, and their appearance can be configured in up to 13 different ways depending on a user’s personal preferences.

Remote Updates
Software updates and remote provisioning for SPA942 phones can be handled safely and securely as a result of the devices’ 256-bit encryption standards. Remote accessibility allows IP Telephony Service Providers (ITSP) and SIP based IP-PBX solution providers to manage, preload, and reconfigure the devices, avoiding costly on-site technical support. An included Web server uses multiple security levels for access to the system’s configurations.

We purchased a half-dozen of these for my startup because they're supported by Vocalocity (our VOIP provider), had the features we want, and the price was right. It's a solid, few-frills, get-the-job-done VOIP phone. Excellent sound quality, and it's attractive on the desk, too.

My only complaint is that the phone uses icons (a picture of a hand for "hold", a piece of paper with a folded corner for "setup") instead of words. At first blush, it's not always intuitive what those icons mean. I understand why Cisco did this (reduced localization costs for a product that can sell in the global market). I almost never read the documentation that comes with electronics, so the first time I needed to place a call on hold, I spent 60 seconds staring at it looking for the "hold" button, dumbfounded that it didn't have one.

This is a good phone, it works well. I did need technical support to set it up though from my service provider, the set-up guides appear to be written by engineers for engineers.

Standard features on the SPA942 include two active lines, dual switched Ethernet ports, 802.3af PoE support, a high resolution graphical display, speakerphone, and a 2.5 mm head-set port.

I will be using the SPA942 with RingCentral Online for my small business.

Unfortunately my device arrived "Dead on Arrival," I was not surprise because when I received the shipment from Amazon, the box did not have the manufacturer seal. I have used many Cisco/Linksys products in the past and they are pretty good at how they pack and ship their products.

IMPORTANT: The SPA942 does not ship with a power supply, please order Linksys PA100-NA Power Adapter with your order.
