This is the best fountain pen I have used with a simple un-plated steel nib. It feels very smooth against paper and the two halves of the nib are aligned perfectly so there is no occasional scratch feel as you might get on other low-priced fountain pens. The ink comes out readily most of the time, sometimes requiring a little nudge on first contact, but never skipping in the middle of writing.

It lacks a pocket clip, although the raised Pelikano logo on the cap is high enough to prevent rolling. If you need a clip, the non-Junior Pelikano model (about ten bucks more) has a clip. Another fairly good cheap fountain pen with a clip is the Parker Vector (available as a rollerball or a fountain pen). The Vector isn't quite as smooth as the Pelikano, but it's pretty good for the price and offers a clip and a slim profile.

Pelikan is one of the standard fountain pen brands in Germany, where every student is taught to use fountain pens sometime in elementary school and uses them for all official schoolwork from then on. I was one of those students, and have preferred using fountain pens ever since. This one has the medium nib, as described, which usually means especially smooth ink flow, but my particular pen has a minor issue with that. Still, I enjoy the click when you put the cap on, the label to put your name (in my case I put my phone number) inside the pen, and the smooth cap without a clip - those always end up breaking.

My niece asked me to write her a letter. I used to love writing letters, but wanted to get a reasonable fountain pen instead of the ubiquitous ball point. A friend turned me on to the Pelikano Jr., a pen used in Europe to help children learn to write longhand. I decided to give it a try. The pen arrived faster than I expected and I began practicing "Palmer Method" - loops and stems.

After a week I wrote my niece, but found I really enjoyed using this. I bought a couple other cheap fountain pens, but this remains my favorite. Maybe I will get a nicer pen when I need to sign autographs. But for the moment, this one is just fine.

This item was for my niece Ayanna. She loved to write with a fountain pen. I was trying to find one that her hands would get used to. The nice thing about being on Amazon that you can look in different areas and click on the links that they send to you. I typed in this wording =looking for "kid type fountain pens" I found 62 results. Then I read every review on the pens and went on all email sites to make my final decision. It was this above. And Ayanna loves the pen and I found 2 types of inks cartridges there is a shorter and longer. So I got her the longer cartridges so they don't run out. Did you know that the pen comes in 3 more colors like this. It feels just right in her hands and she said the ink flows like oil or butter so smooth.I got it to her for X-Mas 2012.
