So, I am a beginning drummer. I really only want to learn how to play rudiments and increase my rhythm and speed. The pad is perfect. The grey side is SO quiet, you can play it with other people in the room and not annoy them. This side is made out of a "soft" rubber has a lot of bounce to it, A LOT. The other/black side is made out of a "harder" rubber, and has less bounce, but still enough. This side is also louder, i think of it as making a "tick" sound....this side could annoy people.

The grey side I use, when i want to be discreet of play along with a metronome or song. The other side is when you actually want to produce a sound. Highly recommended for a practice pad. I can't imagine many people not likely this product, but maybe serious drummers have a different POV than I.

Firstly, the pad review.
This is a great, sturdy pad. The Grey side is a soft, quiet gum rubber with a textured surface and FANTASTIC rebound. Very very quiet.

The Black side is louder, more articulate, firmer, and has slightly less rebound to work out your chops.

A great and versatile pad, I highly recommend it.

Secondly, the whole "different product" issue.
The pad is the same as in the picture. It is not the same as an HQ RealFeel Pad because...it isn't. But it is. Let me explain. Not too long ago, HQ percussion became a sub brand of Evans percussion, and thus the HQ RealFeel pad is now the Evans RealFeel. So it's the same pad, new name. So don't fret, now-informed consumers, for this is a genuine RealFeel.

Now go practice.

Tried many other practice pads (Promark X pads, Zildjian practice pads, E-pads, Remo pads) and by far this is the best I've used! Firstly for it serves its primary purpose- QUIET practice with REALISTIC feel. Definitely a must-buy for drummers who have whiny neighbours or if you just wanna practice quietly. Both sides are excellent, even the black side is much quieter than other brands' "Hard sides". Will definitely recommend to any serious drummer out there!

I am a senior in high and have played drums for 6 years and am going to Troy University followed by Auburn University to be in their drumlines and i love it. One side is super quiet and provides great response, while the other side is harder, more audible and not quite as much response for a better workout. If i'm trying to learn a new rythm or a difficult rudiment i start with smaller sticks on the more responsive side and when i get it down on that side i move up to marching sticks and flip over to the less responsive side and perfect it.

I originally bought a Remo pad, thinking the real drum head design would be best. I found that it was too loud, and I didn't like the rebound...wasted money. Then I got this Real Feel pad, along with a sturdy snare drum stand...they make practicing a pleasure. This Evans pad is great.

This pad works quite well for practice. My dog hates when I play my snare in the living room making all kinds of racket. replacing that with this pad gives me the same practice time while at the same time she can be in the room and I can watch some TV at the same time. It is excellent for anyone wanting some extra practice time without all the noise!

This Practice pad is one of the best Practice pads i have played on. Definitely worth the money i paid for. This practice pad contains two sides, The Grey soft rubber side with a great bounce to it, and The black side with a harder rubber used to build your "Chops". It may be a little big and heavy but that's good. Anyways i recommend this product to anyone.

This pad is HUGE... get the 6 inch one. It will weigh you down otherwise. You wouldn't believe how heavy the 12 inch pad is. Also extremely not portable. The 6 inch one is the perfect size.

Aside from that, the two different sides are awesome. One is silenced and easy to bounce on, and the other one is better for cleaning up your playing and is a little louder. I also like how it has no rim like my piece of junk old practice pad.

Get the 6 inch version of this and you won't be sorry.
