PTFE Rings, (Teflon), are not soft and 'rubbery' (for those who were disappointed about that when they got theirs). They're not supposed to be and as a 23+ year veteran machinist, I can assure you that they're not going to "soften up" until they start wearing out are subjected to heat beyond the max specs of the grade.
I needed to make a special replacement ring for my Thrustmaster Warthog Joystick. The stick came with a rubber gasket that was glued in place and then greased.

But the rubber broke loose from its glued position and was pinched and cut. The design really calls for a PTFE material gasket and though these PTFE rings have the right ID and OD dimensions, the profile diameter/thickness was twice what I needed. The plan was to buy the rings and shave down the diameter a little from both sides ending up with a flat profile thickness.

That would've been a piece of cake if I still had access to a vertical mill, (some may have used a lathe and machined arbor jig but IMPO, I saw less work if I held these down while machining them in any number of various milling setup possibilities.

But I didn't have a vertical mill, (or lathe for that matter), nor access to one and the way I did the job was to use a belt sand, (quick, rough material removal stage), followed by an orbital sander, (200-400 grit paper), and then bring it in to the final size with a sanding block by hand.

When I was done, I was looking for a PTFE flat washer/gasket with a thickness of .090. but the tolerance of that thickness had to be within .002 of its thickest point to its thinnest, (in other words, .090 +/.001). The .090 could be .095 but again, no more than a .002 spread from max to min.

I used these on old-fashioned (1920's era) shower faucets, the type that stick out of the wall and have a ceramic bell around them, secured with a brass nut that screws into the valve stem. I wanted something to act as a cushion between the nut and the creamic, so it could be tightened reasonable tight without breaking the ceramic - and also match the white ceramic and last a long time without discoloring. These work well - if I had to do over I'd probably get the next thicker width above 1/16th.

Not really sure the application for these o-rings...the only thing I can think of that you could use them for would be on the inside of a female brass fitting. They cannot stretch to go over anything.

I can't stand reviews for products that rag on how many you needed to buy, or how much they cost. These are all things you know before you buy, if you don't like it, don't buy it. Now on to the product review.

These o-rings feel very hard, even though they say 55 durometer. They do not stretch much, so don't think of these as a replacement for any normal buna-n or viton o-ring. If you need stretch, stick with viton, buna-n, or silicone. These work great, if used properly. Don't expect a white version of a "normal" o-ring.

Thanks Amazon for the quick shipping of an odd product that is not stocked in local stores.

These rings can be used with advantage to replace the cork jet-seal rings in certain SU carburettors on classic cars. Until I found them on Amazon the only other sources had a minimum order of 50, and a twin carb set-up only needs 8.
