I use a lot of these in my astronomy gear. I replace all metal lock screws with these. I used to be able to get locally at Home Depot and other big box stores but they no longer have them them so went with Amazon. The ones I use are 8-32 but they are also available in 6-32 and possibly other threads. I like them for three reasons:
They won't scratch your expensive gear when used as lock screws
If they ever get broken off they can be easily removed by drilling out or melting.
The nylon provides just a bit of friction fit so they won't vibrate out and get lost like metal screws.

THere is nothing worse than having a metal small screw break off in an expensive piece of equipment...can be next to impossible to remove without doing major damage. These can be tightened down just with your thumb and finger with more than enough friction to hold gear tightly. They are knurled for fingers only...NO wrenches or screwdrivers can be used with them. I usually replace the stock screws which are often metric by drilling out with the appropriate drill and retapping. If they came in metric that would be an option but haven't found any. By keeping them all 8-32 it simplifies everything.

I needed a non-metal / corrosive 1/4-20 screw to mount a mail box on an aluminum post. Aluminum and metals are not necessary always compatable + I wanted a "break-away" screw that would shear in case the mail box was hit or damaged; thus saving to have to replace the aluminum post too (the replacement post is very expensive).
The BULK PRICE was perfect and they work 4.0 for my application.
