I bought this kit from a store, not Amazon and mine is in pink (I didn't even see a red one offered in the store). It's a decent little kit. The scissors that I got were excellent: At the cheap price of the kit, I was expecting to be disappointed by the scissors, but these cut very very well. The needles and pins seem to be nice (though I received several pins that were completely dull on the ends, therefore they were useless. Neither of the pencils in the kit would mark, which I didn't mind too much (having others) but if that's a selling point for you, I would reconsider.

Like others have said, the container that this comes in isn't very portable. I haven't had any trouble resealing it to store the items in but it's only a temporary solution for me: I will definitely be finding a different way to store these things. In no way would I advertise this as being in a "reusable storage box."

As for the thread, I can't comment. I purchased this kit mainly for the pins, needles, pin cushion, thimble, and scissors. I have been using different thread (not from the kit) for all of my projects and have been very pleased with the results. I would guess that the thread in this kit would be good enough to at least repair a button or mend something small. It may be better but from past sewing kit experience, I never hold high hopes for the included thread.

Overall, this is a decent little kit. It's best for beginners or for someone who just needs a few sewing basics for occasional use like mending or small hand-sewing projects.

I don't do big sewing projects, but small things. I hem my own pants, fix buttons, mend ripped seams on my children's clothing, and other similar projects. When the trolls came and swiped my previous repair kit (Singer Sewing Kit in Storage Box) - it must have been the trolls, because I just used it a month ago and now it's gone - I set out to find a replacement. At the time I was shopping, an exact replacement of my previous kit was almost twice as much as this Beginners Sewing Kit. With a lot more pieces included, I thought I'd give this one a try. And it's perfect. Unlike the small toy-like scissors that come with other kits, these actually work. They're still not in the same class as my Fiskars scissors, but they are sharp and get the job done, with clean edges on the thread. You get several needles, unlike the three that come in the smaller, more expensive Singer kit, and it's a nice variety of thread colors. I agree with other reviewers that it's an annoyance that there's no storage container included, but I have several small containers that I'll put the pieces in to keep it from getting a mess. No big deal. No, it's not a fantastic kit to start elaborate sewing projects, but if all you need is small amounts of thread, some needles, and a few tools to complete very small projects, I think this is perfect.

Quality is quite poor esp. the seam ripper which will not cut thread (metal is unfinished, rough, unpolished, unsharpened); the needles was the same & the small hole for the threading will catch thread and cause irritation to thread & person. Scissors was OK as i can use it but not sure if it will not last or will rust but for now it is OK. Thimble, threads, pins, pin cushion, "ruler" look like what you might get at Dollar Store; pencil lead was hard & needed softening; i liked the measure.

Surprised Singer selling this with their name; feel it is not worth $10. Could not take a great picture but zoom if you can to see needles.

I don't recommend this staff because the thread quality is too poor. I'm from China and I know what kind of quality you could get if you pay the same price in China. The thread is so easily being broken and it almost hard for me to do any sewing job except to add a missing button perhaps. I cannot return it because I already use some thread for sewing the missing buttons.

This is absolutely the cheapest, most poorly made group of sewing items available. Almost every item is unusable due to its poor quality. I recommend buying the item at a sewing store one by one as needed.

It is a bad product. Only the scissors and thread gauge are as expected.
The threads will not be enough even for a single bobbin. The pins are not beaded.
The pencils don't mark well.
Overall not worth a buy.

HUH. This is not quite what is described. It appears that the case it comes in is some sort of permanent holder, but it is not. Once you open it, the items EXPLODE and will not longer fit in nor stay in the package. Also - the one I received was HOT pink. I'm not a fan of the color to begin with and every single item in the package is hot pink. Not super masculine......

Very poor quality for most of these items. The thread feels thin compared to name brand varieties and the spools are very small--only enough to fill a bobbin. The seamripper is rough and difficult. The pin cushion is also disappointing in that is so small. Scissors are cheaply made, but at least they are quite sharp. Really the only items I would consider keeping for regular use are the measuring tape, thimble and little ruler. This was bought as a gift for a new sewer and it is very sad in that now we will go to the fabric store and rebuy most of the items she could already have.
