3.0 out of 5 stars Good game, bad overall design., June 13, 2007
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This game is sort of a cross between Dungeons and Dragons and Magic: The Gathering, for PSP.

Overall, it's a strong game. It has a good battle system, and does quite well as a single-player game.

So why did I give it a 3 star overall rating? The overall design of the game is very poor, and there is no plot. I mean this literally: the entire single-player game consists of playing against different opponents. You have to see it to believe it; I have never played a game that didn't even try to put in brief story arcs or cutscenes. Your single-player campaign is nothing more than a list of your wins/losses. You play against opponents (who are nothing more than a picture, no dialogue, no anything) until you win. That is it.

I enjoy the gameplay a lot, so I said it's 5 stars for fun. But it gets boring quite quickly if you're not enthralled with a card/grid combat gameplay that you play over. And over. And over again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Game! Encouraged for card game addicts, May 6, 2008
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Warhammer WarCry: Battle for Atluma
This is a great game. I have a blast buying the cards (in game so it doesn't burn a hole in your pocket) and beating up opponents. The game is strictly a virtual TCG (trading card game) so if your not into that kind of stuff, I doubt you will be able to play for long periods of time. But overall a great game! [...]. (It is based of the card game that is based of the actual warhammer game btw)

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Strategy Game, December 30, 2008
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
I picked up this game while searching for a portable strategy game and was not disappointed. The game combines elements of strategy and virtual card collecting in a satisfying manner. Battle against both real and computer opponents is supported.

Turn-based combat using collected cards is the core of the game. Combat against an opponent consists of multiple combat rounds, each lasting from 10-20 minutes, in a best of 3 format. Overall, expect to spend about 30-40 minutes for each contest.

All of the cards are nicely illustrated and each has varying properties useful in battle. Examples of card properties are things like tactical points, spell points, strength, etc. During combat, cards are selected and arranged prior to battle. Once the battle has started, cards are then activated to attack or defend. Support cards are played to bolster an attack or defense. Finally, a "roll" of dice is performed to determine the final outcome of an attack after which cards are destroyed or survive and have their "victory" points counted towards the final scoring for the battle.

The initial learning curve is somewhat difficult if you are not familiar with these types of games. And the tutorials are not particularly helpful either. Unfortunately, struggling through a few losses is necessary before the game begins to become understandable. However, the payoff for this potential frustration is well worth it.

Regarding other game features, additional cards can be purchased using virtual gold won through battle or by trading with other players via wifi (please note: I did not evaluate the multiplayer options for card trading or combat).

Fans of Eye of Judgment on PS3 or similar card games will almost certainly enjoy this one.
