I've been a paper-piecer since dinosaurs roamed the earth. How, then, did I ever get along without this ruler?? I LOVE these! I also have the Add-A-Quarter, which I use for bigger motifs on larger blocks. This one, however, is just what is needed for smaller blocks, and is particularly helpful for making swirls as taught by RaNae Merrill. I just made a 3" swirl, and with so many seams converging in a small space, having this 1/8" cutting tool was more than helpful; it was essential. I found out about this tool while taking a class with RaNae, and got to say, both the class and this item have revolutionized how I paper-piece. The little "lip" sits perfectly against the folded-back foundation to hold the excess securely, unlike a normal ruler, and ensures an accurate cut each and every time. If you enjoy paper-piecing, I recommend you buy not only this one, but its larger cousin, the Add-A-Quarter.

The best tools are often the simplest ones; this one makes cutting a 1/8" seam on my paper piecing projects much faster and more accurate. It's perfect for situations where I have a lot of small pieces and don't want the bulk of all the quarter-inch seams on top of each other. I also have the 1/4" seam ruler for bigger pieces. Love them both.

This is a great tool for paper piecing miniature quilt blocks that require the seam allowance to be trimmed to reduce bulk. For me, trimming a quarter inch seam down to an eighth with scissors or a ruler and rotary cutter just leaves too much room for error. With this ruler, there is no fear of the ruler slipping when rotary cutting a seam allowance to an eighth inch since the ruler is butted up against project. I also find the 6 inch to be a good length for most of the quilt blocks I make. If a longer ruler is needed for a project, it is very easy to simply make the initial cut and then slide the ruler to the new area and cut again.

Makes for precision paper piecing.

I'm making a Dear Jane quilt. The squares are only four and one-half inches in size. I'm using this to help me mark the seams even though it calls for a 1/4" seam. I just sew a tad inside the markings. The lip on the ruler helps to keep the line straight much more than using a regular ruler.

This handy little tool has a little lip on it so when you trim your paper piecing patterns it locks onto the paper and gives you a nice sturdy edge to trim from. The eighth is perfect for very intricate paper piecing designs where your sections are very small.

This ruler is exactly what you need to do more intricate paper piecing. I highly recommend it if you are trying to do life-like flowers and animals. The seams are much neater on the back of your work and the whole piece will be a lot less bumpier at busy junctions.

When paper piecing "add-a-quarter" is a miracle notion. When doing tiny things the "add-an-eight" is a god send. Really, you need these. I was skeptical until a friend let me borrow hers as a quilt retreat, the first thing I did was buy my own when we got home.
