Product Description

Manufacturer Description

The Exilim Zoom EX-Z70 is a new addition to Casio's stylish series of Exilim digital cameras, delivering an effective 7.2-megapixel resolution.

The Exilim series has a reputation for transforming the digital camera market. Slim and stylish, packed with superior functionality, and astonishingly easy to use, Exilim cameras combine the benefits of compact size, intuitive controls, large displays, and long battery life. The release of the new EX-Z70 complements the already available EX-Z60, a high-performance, 6.0-megapixel model released earlier in 2006. The EX-Z70 increases the resolution to 7.2 megapixels for even more detailed, beautiful photographs.

Like its forerunner, the EX-Z70 features Easy Mode, a user-friendly camera menu for beginners. Easy Mode simplifies the wide array of camera settings to three easy menus (image size, flash, and self-timer). With Easy Mode, users can make camera settings using simple onscreen descriptions, enabling even beginners to get started right away with the fun of photography. A combination of other powerful features ensures that beautiful photos are captured with just a touch of the shutter button:

  • Anti Shake DSP for reducing photo blur due to shaky hands or moving subjects.
  • Best Shot function for getting optimal photo results simply by selecting a sample image of the type of scene the user wants to shoot.
  • Large 2.5-inch LCD for great visibility.

The camera's lightweight aluminium body comes finished in either luxurious black or high-quality silver. The top of the body is rounded to give it a soft look, and the overall design is a perfect blend of fashion and functionality. The EX-Z70 captures those priceless moments in a stylish package that puts superior image quality in the palm of every user's hand.

What's in the box Casio Exilim EX-Z70 digital camera, rechargeable lithium-ion battery (NP-20), lithium-ion battery charger (BC-11L), AC power cord, USB cable, AV cable, strap, CD-ROM, basic reference guide

5.0 out of 5 stars Great camera, don't forget memory, February 12, 2007
By Jonathan Gardner (Federal Way, WA USA) - See all my reviews

I bought this camera as my first digital camera. I run Linux at home and I had convinced myself that digital photos can never be as good as "real" photos. My wife insisted, so I chose to get this one.

I like this camera a lot. The user interface is a bit unweildy, but five minutes and I became a pro. It's not terribly complicated and even my two-year-old daughter is taking pictures! Downloading it is absolutely simple, even running Fedora Core 5 with KDE. Just plug in the USB cord and up pops a window with your images.

Anyway, the camera comes, built-in, with just a tiny bit of memory. Be sure to get one or two GB of memory right away, so you can take as many pictures as you like.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fairly nice camera...a few minor complaints, March 11, 2007
By G. Kramer (Ashland, Oregon) - See all my reviews

I've had this camera a few months and use it regularly. I bought it after having purchased another Casio for my wife and wanting to upgrade from an older, much larger, digital camera. The Exilim is very thin, easily fits in your pocket and the large LCD screen is clear and readable even without glasses. The choice of photo modes is extensive and the picture quality had been high.

Its not perfect though. Getting the battery and SD card out is a pain in the neck...there is no release button and you have to sort of pick at them or use a pencil to eject. The battery life is tolerable, not great and the charger is a bulky, two-piece unit that could be greatly streamlined so that you didn't have to pack it. The USB-cord is really annoying (one more think to carry, since it uses a proprietary connector rather than a standard "firewire" type nub. Casio would do well to streamline all this stuff (my wife's camera has a much better power-interface and its is OLDER so it seems as if they moving in the wrong direction with these modifications).

That said...it does take great photos and is easy to use. If you don't travel a lot and leave the goodies at home it would be an excellent choice. And you can't beat the price for the quality of the unit.

2.0 out of 5 stars Highly Disappointing, March 25, 2007
By Dan Casselman "dan and rachel" (Somewhere in TX) - See all my reviews

I'm hoping the retailer will take the camera back. Pro's: It's small. Cons: The battery has a very, very short life. After 10-12 pictures, I can't count on it being ready for the next round of photos. Shutter lag is too long. I know that's the number one gripe of all digital camera owners, but this one seems to be worse than any one that I've had. Next Picture cycle time can also be really terrible. If you're looking to capture the moment, chances are you'll be capturing the moment AFTER the moment. Don't get it.
