I have two mastiff mixes and a brand new car. This seat cover works. It's got several nifty little features that make it great. It's got adjustable hardware straps with durable metal connectors to fit around whatever size head rests your seat may have. It's got these great little plastic gizmos that fit into the seat crack to anchor the thing so it doesn't gather up and lays flat. It's got some elastic straps that fit around the bottom of the seat on each side to further stabilize it so the dogs don't dismantle it. And more I'm not mentioning. Just all in all a high-quality product. Now if I could only find something to keep the slobber off the windows...

I bought this to replace a 'pet robe' cover that was worn out. It is a very well made cover and fits well on the seat. The problem is that it doesn't have any rubber backing and therefore, it slides all over leather seats. No matter how secure I thought it was, as soon as my dog walked on it, it slipped and exposed the leather seats. I gave it to my sister who has cloth seats and it works great in her car.

On October 16, 2010, I bought the Solvit 62283 Deluxe Bench Seat Cover for Pets.
It was fantastic. Exceptionally well made. Looks great, fits great.

On May 30, 2011, I bought another. Exactly the same product. Same model number. Same page on Amazon.
This one is junk. Thin material, poorly constructed, feels cheap. I hate it.

Both from Amazon. Both from the same product page.

So my question. What happened in the space of one year?

Here's what I think. I think you created an excellent product, collected the 5-star Amazon reviews, then switched to a cheaper manufacturer to save money.

Am I wrong?

First off, I want to tell you that I have owned this seat cover for 3 years, so I know all that's good and bad about it. First of all I will start with all of the pros. This is a very high quality seat protector! It fit in both my Honda Civic Coupe and now it fits great in my Rav4. It keeps stains and dog hair off of my seats wonderfully. I have a Dalmatian and she sheds like CRAZY, but this cover keeps my seats nice and clean. This cover is super easy to install: it has really nice adjustable straps at the top to go over the headrests, it has these awesome plastic round things that you stick between the seat cushion on the back to keep it anchored (they work great!), and it has nice strong elastic attached at the corners to fit over the edges of the seat for extra anchoring. The fabric is very high quality and comfortable for the dog to lay on. Now, here are the cons: As many people stated before my review, the grommets tend to come lose/fall off (especially after washing it) HOWEVER, if you keep the grommets that fell off and just simply put them back on, it's no big deal! Just make sure when you wash the cover that the headrest clips are hooked onto the grommets and you wont lose them. That's what I've been doing for the past 3 years and this cover is still working like a charm. That is seriously the only complaint I have about it, but like I said it's easily fixable and not that big of a deal. Hope this review helped!

After throwing away several over-priced, useless seat covers, I found this one from Solvit. Fantastic! It really stays put when a large dog jumps in and out. It's easy to install and clean. I like the neutral color, too. Don't consider any other brand -- we have them in all our cars, and recommend to all our dog-owner friends.

I bought one of these seat covers almost 5 years ago and loved it so much - it is a nice heavy cotton fabric that lays well & has held up to my Great Danes including repeated washing. 3 years ago I bought another one and again that same wonderful cotton fabric. Everyone asked where I got it and I happily referred them to Solvit. We got a new car last year & I needed a third cover so immediately jumped on amazon to purchase my favorite. When it arrived I was concerned that the fabric was different - kind of a soft microsuede on top and slippery nylon material on the bottom. It felt ok to me so I put it on the car. Well I hate this one - and I dont use that term lightly. It doesnt not stay on the seat like the old fabric - slipping, sliding, bunching up, static electricity, and the dogs dont like it either! I kept the cover thinking it would wear in after some washing & maybe I could figure out a different way to anchor it so it would stay on the seat...no such luck. A year later and I still hate this thing. The only reasonit deserves one star is I do like the new sewn on connections that go around the seat headrest better than the old clip style and it does "look" nice. I tried to order again this year thinking maybe I got an off style or something - no such luck, the exact cover came which I immediately returned.
There is another one star review on Amazon where the person contacted the manufacturer about the fabric change -- good reading! I dont care that the cost of cotton doubled - I would gladly pay more for the old fabric. Until they change it back, Solvit has lost a customer and any referrals I would have given.
