These nipple shields are a lifesaver! I don't have inverted nipples, but my nipples are small and don't stick out much. I tried and tried to get the baby (our first) to latch on, but she would only suck for 1 or 2 seconds and then disconnect, so we would have to repeatedly try to get her to latch on again and again with the same 1 or 2 seconds results. The baby would soon scream and cry out of frustration/hunger and I was so disappointed and upset that she couldn't latch on. I was determined not to give up. We eventually tried the nipple shield and the baby immediately latched on and was able to nurse! It was amazing. I did try to use the nipple shield for a few minutes and then removed it to see if she could continue breastfeeding without it, but my nipples would quickly go back down to their small size and then she couldn't stay latched on. I have just given up and decided that I will use the nipple shield until I am no longer nursing. Our pediatrician said that she used the nipple shield with her first baby when she nursed for a year and that it's fine - it's better than not nursing, so that made me feel better about it. I still try to feed the baby on occasion without the nipple shield to see if she will latch on, but it's now two months later and we still have the same issues. I'm sure part of it is that she is so used to the nipple shield now and it's too much work for her to try to nurse without it, but I'm ultimately okay with it. As long as she's nursing and getting healthy breast milk (thanks to the nipple shield), then we're doing very, very well.

My two week old newborn was having trouble latching on to my breast. The problem was so bad that it was taking 30-40 mins just to latch each time he ate at night and both he and I were in tears each time he tried to feed. A lacation consultant told me to tweak my hold. However, the problem got even worse. I was about to give up breastfeeding until one night I tried a nipple shield that I bought by mistake. It immediately fixed the problem. Now my son is almost five weeks old. I know I should try to get him on the breast without the shield, but the latching problem was so traumatic for both of us that I will continue to use the shields as long as I breastfeed.

Best tool for breastfeeding - ever!

With my first daughter, I thought I just sucked at breastfeeding and I gave up after three months. I figured I'd try harder with my second daughter and not let anybody with a bottle get near her. Well, she started off great, but then developed jaundice, became lethargic and wouldn't nurse. I was forced to supplement with a bottle. I kept trying to nurse, but she wouldn't latch. Luckily, my nurses were much more informative and explained that I had flat nipples. "What?!" They explained that it wasn't impossible for babies to latch, but it was more challenging, especially after they've had a bottle. They gave me tips on how to imitate breastfeeding with a bottle and I tried everything. Once we were home, I kept trying, but it was too much. I started pumping exclusively. This was a pain in itself, but when our electric went out, I was stuck. My boobs hurt so bad! I had formula to feed DD, but no way to express any more milk. Ouch! We moved in with my parents for three days and when I came home I decided it was time to figure out the nursing thing. The nurses had mentioned something about breast shields and I decided to look into it. I ordered my breast shield and almost cried when it arrived. It took a few times to get used to - it doesn't stick very well (I've noticed that licking it helps) and it is easy for my daughter to knock off. Those road bumps aside, we've been nursing successfully for two weeks now and my only real complaint is that I didn't know about this four years ago! I don't even care that it has to be cleaned all the time. All the parts to my breast pump also had to be cleaned and there were more of them and that thing is bulky, heavy, and ugly. I'm limited as to where I can pump and dependent on working electric.

Since the day my little one was born, he had trouble latching on. After speaking to several lactation consultants and trying several positions and holds...nothing seemed to work to get my little one to latch on. I resorted to pumping and feeding him breastmilk from a bottle. I was in tears knowing that i was unable to breastfeed directly from breast. after much research and continous attempts to get the little one to latch i found the nipple shields to be simply phenomenal. he latches on so much better with the nipple shields. I plan on continuing using the shields until i no longer breastfeed.

I almost gave up breastfeeding because my nipples were just raw and cracked and the pain when he would nurse was horrible, I would be in tears while he ate. little did i know , he was not latched on all the way. At my one-week doctor visit, i was introduced to this shield, my only question is.....WHY DIDN'T THEY SHOW ME THIS TO BEGIN WITH????????? buying one for my best friend so she can be successful without pain!!!

I was given one of these in the hospital when my daughter was born. I lost it and the only ones I could find in the stores had a cut out in them and they leaked all over. I like the full circle of silicone better.
