Needs two hands but works great

This will not work for you if your looking for a one hand pair of tongs to adjust stuff in the fire, but with two hands it works really well. It's sturdy and handles a pretty big log. Less curve on the two prongs would make it a touch easier to let go of the log so they get a slight ding on design. But the price is great.

Nice for inexpensive tongs

I use these tongs for a small fireplace. Our old tongs were thinner metal and ripped out at the hinge. These are heavier metal, and I think they will last well for our weekly fires. Maybe not a lifetime though. The curvature at the jaws end makes it difficult to release logs in our fireplace since I'm holding the tongs nearly horizontal. If I could hold the tongs at a higher angle, the log would probably roll right out of the jaws. I have to use a poker to get the log out of the jaws. but it's no big deal. They are long so I don't have to put my hands too close to the fire, but it makes them a bit unwieldy for a small person handling a heavy log. That said, I have moved big logs with much more ease than with our old tongs, and I didn't feel like they would bend. You definitely need 2 hands. The hook on the handle end is really convenient for hanging.

Great alternative to the scissor-type tongs

I love this thing! It's extremely well built and should last much much longer than the scissor tongs which usually go bad at one of the joints before too long. These also make a great poker when left closed because they can solidly push. More than enough length to reach into a hot fireplace for a few seconds and strong enough to move whole log chunks to where you need them.

Love it

Great for the cabin. Very hard to find these at local hardware stores for some reason. They want to sell you the entire fireplace set. This is solid. I leave it outdoors here in Minneapolis all winter and no rust or anything on it yet. Sturdy piece of metal.

Great for campfires

Bought this tool for bringing to camping. It worked great for manuevering logs of all sizes in the fire pit. The only issue was that the tongs get too hot to handle with bare hands, but then that's what gloves are for. I bought a pair of $5 welder's gloves from a local tool store to use with these tongs.

Solid, rigid, and strong! These are REAL fireplace tongs.

I've grown so tired of all the wimpy fireplace tongs out there that bend and flex when handling even the smallest of logs. But these 30" SGL Fireplace Tongs are finally THE pair that I've been searching for. These are super-strong and made of very thick steel. And I love the design of them...it's what makes them grip so well. I have now used them for 5 fires and I am so impressed. These can pick up HUGE logs with ease and they grip like nothing you've ever used before. They don't bend or warp...they just work and they work VERY WELL.

Good tongs but long!

Nice fireplace log grabbers. Heavy duty and work well. The price was great. A little long for small fireplaces. They were too long to even hang up on the stand with the other fireplace tools.
