2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed - Room for a lot of Improvements, October 6, 2007
The setup was relatively easy if you follow the instructions and not try to figure stuff out by yourself (which will result in a few dead ends and double work).

After I had it setup and running and installed the "indexing" service on my computer did I learned that the software is unable to include files from a network share and only locally stored files.... bummer, good that I bought a network storage for my video library a couple months earlier to be able to access it from multiple devices. When I mapped network folders and entered them manually as to be scanned, did they show up as directories on the TV, but no files are being indexed, thus inaccessible.

The next bummer was the user interface on the TV. Big Icons to fit 6 directories or videos on the screen are good for the visually impaired people with only a few dozen videos on their local hard disk, but not for me, who has an 120 vision, big screen TV and several hundred videos. You can't switch to a simpler list mode to be able to fit more videos on a single page. You also do not have any sorting option nor are you able to see any details of the video in the listings. You can see some details if you select a video, like format, length and date created, but that's about it.

I use the wireless option and the Media MVP is the ONLY wireless device in my home network. I wired last year all other devices to make use of 100 MBit network speed. The slower wireless speed should be sufficient for video streaming though, but that does not seem to be the case. Videos hang and lag from time to time. The wireless router is not far away, but in another room (I would not have used wireless if I would had have the router in the same room and used network cable instead). The problem is not with the wireless network. I tested it with a laptop in the same room, which worked perfectly fine and was able to use the maximum speed the wireless network was able to provide. Either is the wireless receiver low quality or the video decoder sucks. I can't tell, because I am not a technician and the MVP does not provide any tool for checking the wireless connection speed.

Conclusion. I am very disappointed with the overall functionality, usability and quality of the product and suggest not to buy it, if any of the issues, which I mentioned are a concern for you.

3.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work with new routers, August 11, 2007
I will soon be using this device as a hard wired device. It does not support SEVERAL new routers, including all type N routers that I have researched, and the D-Link - Xtreme N Wireless-N Gigabit Router does not work for sure. Plus, if it did work, the device only supports WEP, which is just about as good as taping your front door closed. The only plus that this device has is that it works with GB-PVR, but I can't use that until I have an ethernet cable running to my living room. Stick with the cheaper wired version, which is available at other retailers, such as NevvE@@.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought this product because I believed it truly was the right approach as a media extender for what I use, which is "Beyond TV". I have a wireless network set up which has excellent signal strength and was recognized by the MediaMVP but, for some reason, was not able to acquire an IP address from my router. I investigated every option I had but was unsuccessful in getting it to work, Sadly, I eventually had to return the item. I hope Hauppauge will make the effort to improve this device because I think they are on the right track but needss work.
