David Bulley is the author of “Weapon in Heaven” soon to be re-released from Cavern Press. He has won several fiction prizes and published many short stories in literary magazines and on the web.

This is a fine example of the author's ability to tell a full story. Mr. Bulley has taken a believable scenario, and with solid writing, has infused it with power without trying to sound "literary". He serves up that power in one punch that comes at you out of nowhere adding to the story's depth. I recommend this one.

Three Mile Swim is a remarkable tale of resolve, love and pluck. When Dale Leveque's speedboat strikes a stupid moose, he has little Tommy and a three mile swim to a bonfire ashore, forever away. I loved it especially for the almost humorous parallel tale of little Dale and his rock-hard lesson, when dad Dale allows him a shot at becoming a man. What stays with me is dad, 'shirt off, one foot on the side of the boat, poised' as little Dale's mind encourages sinking. I loved this story too because I have been teaching myself how to swim and I comprehend the apprehension of drowning, the forgetting of breathing, the hurt of snorting up an arrow of chlorinated water and the giant claw of a leg cramp right on the deep end.

'I'm tired, Dad.'

'Me too, son, but tired don't matter today.'

Superb dialogue, fine pace, expression. What an amazing story, solid as Mark F. Martin indicates.
