5.0 out of 5 stars Very good low profile AGP video card, March 9, 2007
By Knight of Ni (Dayton, Ohio) - See all my reviews
I purchased this as an upgrade for a Dell Dimension 4600C which has only one free PCI slot, an AGP slot, and requires a low profile video card.

Two low profile brackets are conveniently supplied in the package. One of them accomodates the DVI-I 24 pin and DIM-9 pin TV-out connectors, and the other mounts the DB-15 VGA (RGB out) connector separately. Changing to a low profile configuration requires removing the standard bracket and then attaching the low-profile brackets. (There is a diagram in the user's manual, which can be viewed on Jaton's website.)

I did not use the driver on the CD provided in the package (version 84.26, 4/18/2006). Instead, I downloaded a more recent version (93.71, 11/2/2006) of the Windows XP software from Nvidia's website. (Drivers for Windows Vista are available too.)

The Dimension 4600C case has very little extra space, so I had to remove the DV-15 VGA connector from the card in order to mount it. I only needed the DVI out connector for my monitor.

The cooling fan generates some low-level noise, which is no louder than my computer's case fan and is not an annoyance to me. However, this might be an issue if you're planning to use this card in a Home Theater/Media Center PC.

I am not an avid gamer, so I cannot comment on the suitability of this card for this purpose. For what it's worth, it runs Neverwinter Nights and Knights of the Old Republic on the highest settings smoothly, and runs Celestia beautifully.

This video card offers very good performance for a reasonable price.

5.0 out of 5 stars So far so good, works with 2x/4x universal AGP slot, supports widescreen 1900 x 1200 resolution, February 1, 2007
By DarthRad (CA United States) - See all my reviews
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

The ATI All-In-Wonder 7500 video card on my old eMachine T2200+ computer had been showing signs of trouble playing DVD movies, and then one day stopped completely.

The T2200+ motherboard comes with a universal 2x/4x AGP slot. AGP as a standard for video cards is rapidly dying out, replaced mostly by PCI Express slots. Almost all of the available video cards today that still support AGP are usually only listed as 8x AGP.

I had earlier tried two other video cards, a Connect3D Radeon 9550 256MB card, and then the Pine Tech GEForce 5500 256MB

On one of ATI's websites, the Radeon 9550 chipset was listed as being backward compatible with older 2x/4x universal AGP slots, but when I tried this particular video card, it did not work on my T2200+ computer. It wouldn't even boot up.

nVidia also had billed the GEForce 5500 chipset as being backward compatible with 2x/4x universal slots, but it turned out that the GEorce 5500's maximum resolution was only 1600 x 1200 - it would not support higher resolutions or widescreen resolutions.

Anyway, I returned both of those cards back to Amazon and waited for awhile. When the ATI card on the eMachine finally failed playing DVDs completely, I researched this topic again.

This time, I came across an nVidia website that stated that all of their newer 8x AGP capable video cards would be capable of backwards compatibilty with 2x/4x AGP, with software detection and switching to detect the highest possible speed.

So I decided to try again. I've never heard of Jaton, but I picked this one for three reasons:

1. It's through Amazon! If it doesn't work I can still return it!

2. It's billed as having a maximum resolution of 2048 x 1536. I have two other computers with built-in nVidia 6150 video chipsets on the motherboard and they can do 1900 x 1200 widescreen, so I was fairly sure that this 6200 chipset would be able to do so also.

3. It's relatively cheap. I mean this is for an old computer that has been steadily wearing out (everything on it now has been replaced except for the mother board, CPU, RAM, the original floppy drive, and the micro-ATX case itself)

Anyway, so far so good. The Jaton card plugged in and worked without a hitch with the 2x/4x AGP slot. It can do 1900 X 1200 widescreen also, although right now I've got it connected to a smaller LCD screen with 1280 x 1024 maximum resolution.

The card has a TV-out plug (which I haven't tested yet - this has both a yellow composite video plug and an S-video plug), and one video plug for DVI and one analog video.

The form factor of the video card is half-height, and it comes with two optional half-height metal brackets which you can use to convert this card to use in one of those half-height form factor computer cases (I have one of these also, these thinner cases are about 4 inches thick as opposed to standard computer cases which are about 6.5 to 7 inches thick).

The ATI All-In-Wonder 7500 also had a TV tuner and a video-in port, and this card does not.

But all in all, this is a nice replacement video card if you need to plug it into an AGP slot and just want some decent high resolution video to play DVDs with.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for my needs, March 22, 2007
Needed a budget video card for a low-profile system that would run Windows Vista Aero. Plugged this card in, worked right away, loaded the latest Nvidia Vista drivers from Nvidia's website and have no problems so far. One of the few AGP cards I could find for a low-profile system that had enough built-in memory to run Vista Aero.
