I looked and looked for a product to fix the cracks in the mortar of my surface fireplace stones that would mimic the appearance of the original mortar. My fireplace is made out of old limestone slabs that had mortar which been repaired in the past, but new cracks have appeared and worsened over time. (the house is 50 years old). The cracks were too small to shove mortar into, but they were large enough to be visually quite unattractive.

The fact that this product has the "sand" granules in it to give the true appearance of original mortar was a huge plus and I couldn't find anything else that compared, nor could I find anything locally that was even close.

I have applied this once and have a few places where it sank in from shrinkage as it dried, and will touch that up with a second application, but I'm extremely well pleased with the results so far.

I will have to touch up the color in order to get a total match with the existing mortar, but I'm already convinced that I chose the perfect product. I've plan to buy some small tubes of acrylic paint (very inexpensive), mix a custom color to match the existing mortar and then dab it sparingly in tiny amounts to get the tone of the patched cracks just right without giving it a "painted" look.

I had a hard time finding this product on Amazon, as it's in the "industrial and scientific" category, and I think they should also list it in the home improvements section.

Update: I have added an image to show my fireplace before and after. Bear in mind, this fireplace is 47 years old and has taken its share of hard knocks. The places where I used the More-Flexx were where previous patching had re-cracked and left open spaces by the patching.

If I remember I'll come back and update this after a winter has passed and I can truly see if this handles a few dozen freeze/thaw cycles effectively.

For now, it's held up to hot weather and rain well enough.

I find it's very time consuming to rub it into smaller cracks. I'm currently using it to patch some cracks in some beige stucco. The color matches well, but I sure wish there was a youtube video or howto explaining how to apply it. I keep thinking I'm missing something.

For example, when I first started I didn't spend much time working it into the concrete. These patches didn't seem to take as well and it's easy to scuff the side of the patch and peel up (wreck) the patch.

If I spend more time (and it adds up to a lot of time if you have a lot of cracks to patch) working the mixture into the crack _and_ some area beside the crack it seems to take really well. It's no longer easy to scuff the side of the patch and peel the patch away - and I don't think moisture is going to get underneath the mixture. It _looks_ really durable. The problem is that I wound up having a beige color a half-inch on both sides of the crack - because when I pressed on the caulk it just naturally spread out that far.

I'm working with beige concrete so the extra caulk isn't that noticable, but the perfectionist in me wonders if a clear outdoor silicon caulk would be better for the smaller cracks.

I never really knew what to use to seal up the small cracks that were developing in my stucco. I thought I needed to buy a tub o' stucco and get to work.

This did the trick! The color match isn't perfect... but I didn't expect it to be and I'm sure it wouldn't have matched even if I bought the same stucco that was originally put on the house.

Plan to order more to make those minor repairs as needed!

I gotta' agree with Kyle. I had some large (like 3/4 inch wide) cracks at the expansion joints in a sidewalk that I wanted to seal. These were leading to the front door, so I really wanted the caulk to match both the texture and color of concrete, and to be strong and flexible enough to deal with such a large crack where it'll surely continue to move. Where necessary, I back-filled with foam and carefully followed the instructions - I power-washed, then wire-brushed the surfaces, then put the stuff in and pressed it with my fingers to get good adhesion (... at that point I felt pretty stupid because in all the caulking I'd done before, I'd never prepared the surfaces so well.). My application was pretty heavy and thick, and I was quite concerned after a couple days because this stuff was still soft. At that point it wasn't tacky to touch, but you could very easily put a dent into it with your finger. I was using this at a rental, so I don't know how long it took to fully harden - I'm guessing it probably took at least a week, in summer in Colorado (i.e. both dry and hot).

Well, it's a few months later now, and I'm thrilled. The texture and color are excellent (I used gray), and it's both hard and flexible - very 'tough' is good description. I won't really know if it's as great as I think for another 5 years or more, but so far I like it better than any other concrete repair material I've tried. I've used a number of concrete patch products - some in tubes, the concrete-vinyl patch materials, etc, and they either (1) flex well, but don't match the texture/color of concrete (most 'traditional' caulks), or (2) are not flexible enough and crack again with just a bit of movement (most concrete patches - both in tubes and mixable).
