Not way this is true 5/8 or it is poor quality. The one I was replacing was hard and solid, this one just squished and ended up about 3/8 thick. The door wouldn't even seal. My guess is this is just a poor quality gasket. I was replacing the door gasket on an Englander (TimberRidge) 55-TRPAH.

Used this on my wood burning stove door. Worked as advertised and I did not have the issue others had with the glue not sticking but then I did follow the instructions. I left the door closed overnight to allow the cement to fully harden before I lit a fire, maybe that is why I didn't have a problem????

Talk about timing - I just installed this today. As I was waiting for the glue to dry, I got this request for a review.
Overall - no complaints with the product. This was my first time replacing the Rope Gasket, so let me give my fellow newbies some advise.
** Wear Latex Painters gloves !!! **
1). Don't do the work in your Den. The glue is messy and hard, if not impossible, to remove from carpet once it dries (I had a cloth down, but you still get glue on your fingers and if you touch something - DEAD MAN!
2). In my case: Glue is Black, Stove is Black, Rope is Black - which can make it difficult to spot glue spills/leaks to be cleaned-up, so work in a VERY well lit area.
3). Get yourself a 2" wire brush wheel for your cordless drill. It makes cleaning out the channel on the door SO MUCH easier. Use a small flat-headed screw driver for those hard-to-get spots.
4). Another messy note - when I first went to apply the Glue, there was a partially dried piece of glue in the tip that I didn't know about. Nothing was coming out, so I squeezed harder. Then suddenly a glob of glue burst out. Luckily I was pointed at the channel, so I just used my finger to spread the glob of glue down the channel. Had I been pointing at the glass on the door - ugh. (although the glue does cleanup fairly well with a damp paper-towel and soap.)
5). The instructions say to lay a bead of glue in the channel just enough to hold the rope. Well, how the hell much is that??? Anyway - expect glue to ooze out as you lay the rope in the channel. Use a damp towel to clean-up as you go. Frankly, it's hard NOT to get glue all over the place on the door and all over the rope. My guess is that a small bead of glue - about the diameter of 2 coffee stirrers(??) should be fine.Read more ›

Item came in record time and packaged great. When I used it I found that it had mostly dried up in the tube. Stuff must have been on the shelf awhile! I was able to use what I needed and it holds well. Have had no trouble yet.
I will buy locally the next time I need sealer.

I bought this to replace our stove gasket. It is very thin and I ended up ripping it all off and buying another tube of cement to replace the old one back on. It was not even close to the proper thickness as it advertised. I adjusted the stove handle to the point where it could hardly close, but still had flames coming out of the sides. Not any good.

This may be an unfair review as we had ordered two of these kits several years ago. One we used then, and just today we opened up the second one. The cement felt soft in the tube, but did not want to come out! It was a very messy job, trying to cement the fiberglass into the slot... I just hope it holds. My advise is to not let the unopened tube sit around for a couple of years. I like to have a spare, because when you need it, you need it NOW.

Other than the cement issue which may have been my fault, it seems to be a good product, so I will give it 4 stars.
