Product Description

From the Manufacturer

The new FE-200 point-and-shoot digital camera combines stylish design and approachable functionality to provide a fulfilling digital experience. Slim, compact styling and new features have been added to the latest FE cameras, including Digital Image Stabilization, a large 2.5-inch LCD, a 6.0-megapixel CCD image sensor, a 5x optical zoom, and much more.

Unique Features of The New FE-Series Cameras
The camera's 5x wide optical zoom (28mm-140mm equivalent in 35mm photography) makes it easy to get everyone and everything into one shot. The FE-200 captures large family photographs, even when there's no room to back up, as well as vast scenic panoramas. Its metal body provides durability and a sleek appearance that would fit-in at any cocktail party.

Features:

Easy Operation
The new FE-series cameras feature an enhanced Help Guide that makes digital photography simple for users of all levels. A tutorial "shooting guide" educates users on tips for achieving specific effects, such as "shooting into backlight" and "adjusting coloration." The shooting guide not only provides detailed descriptions for various photographic scenarios, but also actually sets the camera with the touch of a button, making the transition from learning to doing instantaneous.

The FE-Series cameras also feature a "One Touch" design with individual buttons for shooting, reviewing and deleting images, conveniently located on the top of the cameras with icons so that frequently used functions can be accessed easily. Shooting, playback, zoom, and delete options are at your fingertips. Macro mode, flash mode, and a self-timer are located on an arrow pad for quick use while setting up the perfect composition.

Digital Image Stabilization Mode
The new FE cameras feature Digital Image Stabilization Mode for capturing crisp, clear pictures--free from the blur sometimes caused by camera shake or moving subjects--with high ISO sensitivity and fast shutter speed.

Large LCD Provides Clear Images
The large 2.5-inch LCD screens make it easier to see clear images when composing shots, as well as when gathering friends and family around to view the results, all without having to lug a laptop around to present your portable photo gallery exhibit.

Pre-Set Shooting Modes Make It Easy to Capture Great Images
The inclusion of 16 shooting modes, including QuickTime Movie, accessed via a rotating dial and menu button on the back of the cameras makes it easy to capture great images in a variety of lighting situations, such as Sports, Fireworks, and Night Scene with Portrait. The FE-200 offers QuickTime Movie mode, which enables users to create short movies of events that can be emailed to family and friends.

Simple Connection to PC
Linking any FE-Series camera to a computer is easy with the USB Auto Connect feature, which connects the camera directly via USB 2.0 cable and requires no software.

Olympus Master Software
Back at the Windows PC or Mac, Olympus Master software provides the ultimate in digital imaging management. An intuitive user interface makes downloading to your computer quick and simple. Images are searchable by date or keyword in the Calendar View. With one-click editing tools, such as red-eye reduction, images can be touched-up before printing or e-mailing. Online support, templates, and other user services are just a mouse-click away.

Optional Neoprene Carrying Case
Olympus' optional Neoprene Carrying Case offers the camera protection from the elements and other items in your backpack. The case is made of soft, flexible neoprene fabric with a modern, sporty design. (Neoprene cases not included with camera--must be purchased separately.)

What's in the Box
Olympus FE-200 digital camera, rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery and charger, USB cable, audio-video cable, wrist strap, Quick Start guide, basic manual, CD-ROM (including Olympus Master software and advanced manual), and warranty.

1.0 out of 5 stars Nice looking Camera - terrible pictures, November 4, 2006
This is a very nice looking camera and as a basic point and shoot (which is what I was looking for) - it has a lot of nice features. Pictures taken with the wide angle lens are pretty good - however, when taking any type of close up picture any slight hand movement will result in a blurry picture and the image stablization feature does not help this. The colors are OK - not great and on an auto setting the flash will go off anytime you are indoors - even in good light , resulting in a washed out photo. You have to manually turn off the flash which is annoying.
Also, takes a long time between pressing the button and taking the picture and even longer before it is ready to take the next picture

4.0 out of 5 stars Very nice, March 5, 2007
By R. Palmer (New York) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is my 3rd Olympus digital camera. I wanted a slimmer version of the great C-740 UltraZoom so I can carry it in my handbag.

The optical zoom is only 5x but it has some nice features that are good for novices and more experienced photographers as well. It has an "online" guide which is great as well as tips for how to use the various settings.

My only complaint is the proprietary battery pack - it comes with a recharger but unlike the C-740 UltraZoom, you cannot replace it with regular AA batteries. This is a problem when you travel in remote areas and don't have access to an electrical outlet (was 6 days in the desert in the Middle East) and you can't use regular AA batteries which you can buy at any souk.

Otherwise, great little camera.

1.0 out of 5 stars This. Camera. BLOWS., August 16, 2007
I was so excited whe I got my first digital camera for Christmas this year. The novelty wore off about a day later when I uploaded the pictures & witnessed the picture quality (or lack thereof).

Every single picture, even ones taken from far away, were washed out with the flash on. Turn the flash off & all the pictures are yellow. I thought that it was just because it was a brand new camera & that the flashbulb would lose some intensity over time, but here we are in August & the same problem exists.

This may not be a problem for a lot of people, but for me it is. I go to a lot of concerts & enjoy taking videos of the performances to look back on later. Since video cameras are definitely not allowed into the venues (understandably), I use my digital camera. Let me just say this - the video quality is terrible; the sound quality os non-existant. I'd expect some distortion, but not like this. I'll watch the videos now of songs I've known the words to for years & not be able to tell, even by lip-reading, which part of the song I've videoed.

If you're in the market for a digital camera, I recommend the Fujifilm Finepix Z5FD. It's around the same price (possibly cheaper!) & the picture, video & sound quality are leaps & bounds better than this piece-of-you-know-what camera. My friend owns it & every picture/video I've viewed on her camera is perfect. Well, as perfect as it can get for using a non-professional point-and-shoot camera. I'm thanking my lucky stars that my Olympus broke & now I can buy the Fujifilm without offending the people who bought me the FE-200!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Pleased
Wanted a smaller camera that had more than 3x zoom. My other camera is an Olympus with 10x zoom. It is a bit bulky. This one is not as thin as others, but just great for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a wonderful product.
I love my camera. It is easy to use and has way more features than I need. But it still does what I need, and is easy to use.
