I was about to buy this (I needed 40 feet for a welding project), and I had the clever idea to Google local metal & welding supply. I'm so glad I did. I found the same hot rolled 1x1x0.12 (14gauge) A36 locally for $1.10 a foot (plus sales tax) and they helpfully cut it down to the length of my truck bed at no charge. Amazon's certainly got a better selection and better pricing than you'll find in home improvement stores, and they deliver to your door--and for that convenience you pay over 4 times as much.

Good price, very fast shipping. I got this metal tube faster than if I waited for the weekend to browse the home center or rummage the scrap yard.

The rectangular tube I purchased was as described on this page: 0.625 x 0.065 x 12 inches.

The tube may have pieces of trim or shavings inside. Be careful. The item was shipped in a thick cardboard tube that weighs as much as the metal.

It's nice and sturdy to be used for an outdoor lamp extension.

If you want to make your own 2 inch square tube hitch of some type this 12 inch piece will work well. I would recomend a good coating of a Por15 or equivalent to be able to take the outside envronment if you are going to leave it in place on your vehicle, otherwisw just a coat of rustoleum primer and topcoat will be fine.

Amazon never ceases to amaze me with what they have available.

I am always building something, and need different types of metal.

Locally metal is priced ridiculously, and online the shipping just kills you.

Now I can get different lengths and shapes of steel, aluminum, etc. shipped for free (and quick!) with my Amazon Prime membership.

No more 20 mile trips to the metal yard to pay top dollar.

Bought a 2" x 2" x .065" piece to convert my roof mount bike racks to hitch mount. I was debating about getting the .065" or the .12" wall thickness. While the thicker tubing may be stronger, it's also double the weight. I am very glad I got the .065" wall thickness. It is very strong and can support my full body weight (200lb) jumping at the end of a 3ft piece mounted to the hitch without flexing at all - so it will easily support a couple 20lb bikes. It's a little dirty when it arrives so be careful if you're wearing nice clothes when handling it.

A recent project required some 3/4" square tubing to slide over some existing square tubing. None of the local home improvement stores showed stock. A quick check of Amazon Prime showed they now have this available, in just about any size. I had it in two days in a super heavy duty cardboard tube, well packed and measured true.

It's a 4 foot stick of square tube. Good price. Admittedly,I didn't take out a tape measure to verify exact length, and I didn't take micrometers to the tube wall thickness to verify, but it looks pretty solid. The end of the tube looks like it was cut from a plasma cutter: it wasn't the cleanest cut, but 2 minutes with a grinding wheel will smooth it out. For what I wanted out of it (building a tire carrier), it is perfect.

it is what it says, good construction no faults. simple and easy.

Packaging was a little odd, wasteful (ordered 6 and they all came in separate boxes oddly enough) but does not lose a rating based on that.
