Like the nasty bastard child of epoxy and RTV. Easy cleanup with rubbing alcohol but resistant to just about everything else. 4 hour set, 400F max temp, close fitting surfaces only. Can also be used as a gasket sealant, for example on a metal head gasket. A++ 5 stars - would buy again but I think 4oz is a lifetime supply.

This is great gasket sealing material. I have never used it before and was going to use Permatex ultra black. A friend recommended this stuff so I gave it a try.

So far, I've used it to seal the oil pan on my motorcycle. Works like a charm on the oil pan gasket (both sides). I applied a light, even coat on the pan gasket, reattached the pan, and screwed in the bolts finger tight only. I waited overnight before tightening to torque specs. No seeping. It works! As with any gasket and sealant, make sure your sealing or mating surfaces are clean. Stir or shake before using

I'm giving this only 4 stars because the brush broke off from the cap. Also, the can has no information about drying or curing time. I checked the Permatex website and found the technical data sheet for this stuff. According to the data sheet, you can use whatever you applied it to after 4 hours. It cures in 24 hours but this stuff never really dries out. It hardens some, but stays tacky/sticky like dried tree sap or resin. So 1 less star for a broken brush and abbreviated info on the can.

Finally, you'd think this stuff would be hard to remove, but it comes right off. As an example, I bungled a valve cover job on my bike and had to remove the gasket and the Permatex #3. It came off easily with rubbing alcohol or contact cleaner and a shop towel. I also used those solvents and fine steel wool which worked well. That you can remove it with minimum effort is surprising because it stands up to oil and fuel. Impressive stuff!

I refuse to put on any gasket without coating it with this stuff first. Have used on cork, rubber, paper, o-rings and direct metal to metal mating surfaces. Hasn't failed me ever. Wear nitrile gloves and cleanup with acetone when you're done.

Used this to seal the crankcase of a Briggs and Stratton rebuild. Has the right consistency out of the bottle, sets up perfectly. Does not run if applied evenly and stays on the mating surface. On torquing the project, you may want to wait a few minutes, and recheck the torque on the bolts. Not certain if this is called for in the instructions, but I found I gained a little more on some threads upon rechecking. No leaks yet on the new motor. Very satisfied.

I love this stuff. In a past life, I put myself through school as a auto mechanic and I have used this stuff most of my life. It never hardens or breaks up. It is not affected by water, gasoline or oil. Cleaning the parts does not have to be obsessive, the can lasts forever and there is no waiting for it to cure. I don't believe that globs of it will break off to find their way into oil passages like globs of silicon sometimes do. In summary, it is more effective and way less expensive that heavily advertised silicon sealers.

I've been using this on Triumph motorcycle cases for 40 years. My last can (they used to be metal) lasted many years. I checked every store within 12 miles of my house and this is simply not available. Happy to find it on Amazon! Seals great and any excess cleans up easily when fresh with denatured alcohol. It doesn't say it, but shake well before using - at least if it has sat a long time.
