Holds all our shower junk

Having never built a shower before I was a bit nervous about mounting an aluminum pan to the wall, filling it with deck mud, then tiling over it. After some reading I managed to get up my nerve and get this thing mounted and believe it or not it turned out pretty good!

Built to last!!

The shelves and benches from Innovis are great! I'm an enthusiast DIY'r who has rebuilt two custom tile showers and I have included these benches and shelves. They come with great instructions and they just work. Once you fill these things with deck mud they are practically unbreakable and feel as solid as an oak tree! Tiling them is simple too.

It's been almost two years now and I'm quite sure these shelves will be trouble free for the life of the shower. Buy with confidence.

Very nice and sturdy

I remodel my entire master bathroom and installed 2 of these in the shower -- one is a shelf for shampoo and the other is lower for leg shaving.

You will need a 16 x 16 inch tile to cover the top of the bench/shelf -- I didn't use mud (within the unit), and it works well

Can't imagine someone being able to sit on one of these

Perfect as shaving ledge or shelf, but not a bench

I wanted a shaving ledge to prop my leg when I shave. This is perfect for that or maybe as a shelf. I am a small person and I would not call this a bench. If you need a bench to actually sit on, there are larger versions of this model which would be more appropriate. It is very sturdy and works well with an acrylic shower base when you can't build a bench all the way to the floor. I love it, but make sure it suits your needs.

A fairly easy install

I purchased the BT17 shelf from Better Bench for a master bath renovation. The idea is that this metal frame is installed in your shower and then filled with deck mud to give you a firm and solid shelf ready for tiling.

The installation was fairly straightforward, and the bench offers options of installing in studs (the desired option) or using wall anchors. It can also be installed on top of tile or before tiling.

If you're building a new shower, go ahead and add blocking where you want the shelf, and then you can install it securely using stainless screws.

The shelf frame was very solid, and the manufacturer provides directions for making deck mud to fill the bench, but I got mine from a tile forum (johnbridge.com).

The completed triangular shelf looks very professional and provides welcome storage for our shower.

Great product, wish it shipped to Hawaii

I bought this item as part of the remodel of a home on the Big Island of Hawaii. I had to have it shipped to me in Walla Walla and then re-ship it because the seller won't ship to Hawaii. I can understand that for items that could break easily in shipment, but if I'm willing to pay for the extra cost it would be nice to save a step and the time.
Having said that, the product itself was great. My contractor installed it and said he'd love to use it again if it was more readily available to him on the Big Island. It made the shelf in our guest shower look like part of the shower and not just an add-on.
