My hamster loved to eat the roof of the house. She bit along the trunk too, but never made a dent. I ended up removing it because the roof was so ugly, so I cut the roof off (it's just attached by strings). So now I have a trunk with a hole at the top. Which is ok, cause I can store food in it. She never wanted to sleep in there, though. She just pushes all her soiled bedding in it.

I have a Syrian hamster that loves to burrow in her shak. A majority of the time you cant even see her. She has never chewed on it but has pulled some hay off of the roof. She sleeps in it during the day and runs in it for safety and pokes her head out. I would totally recommend this for hamsters and other similar pets.

This is a lot bigger than I thought, and it has a nice weight to it. The hole is prefect for my Robo hamster, and it is very roomy inside. After setting it down, and putting my hamster in it, she came back out and never went back in. For some reasons, she doesn't like it. In a way, I wasn't surprised because she is very picky. Just like people, animals can be picky and finicky, too.

If your hamster isn't as selective, I do recommend it, because it is very cute. It has a nice weight, and shouldn't get moved or get tipped over easily by a hamster. The hole is big enough for a regular size hamster. Robo hamsters are dwarf hamster, and it is very roomy for my little one to enter and exit.

I like the hay that makes the roof of the hut. Very cute.

After reading some reviews and concerns that were shared by the reviewers (i.e. the material is bad for hamsters to consume and that it might splinter), I got this because my little Robo doesn't chew on anything much. She's picky. I know she won't be interested in "chewing" on this little hut.

Make sure your cage or aquarium is spacious. I didn't measure it physically, but I estimate that this hut is about 5-6 inches in diameter.

Though this edible rodent toy is intended for hamsters and gerbils, my
baby rat Scruffles loved the Snak Shak that he received in his Christmas
stocking last year. I would strongly recommend this product to anyone who
has pet rodents. It is all-natural, healthy (made of potato and molasses),
and helps to wear down their teeth when they get too long. Though
Scruffles didn't actually use his Snak Shak as a house, nor did he like to
go inside of it at all, he loved spending hours nibbling on it; in the
weeks following Christmas, I would find Scruffles happily chewing on what
was left of the walls of his shak.
Since Scruffles is a tiny rat, we gave him his Snak Shak in the smallest
size available. Regardless, it took him about a month to eat the entire
thing, relieving me of the task of replenishing his goodies for a while.
Some rodent treats are expensive and need constant replacement, as your
pets eat them in a minute. This treat will last, saving you money in the
long run.
If you love your rabbit, hamster, guinea pig or baby rat, this is the
best possible treat and chew toy for them. A warning: do not give this to
your pet if his or her cage is in your bedroom... the noisy gnawing will
keep you up all night!

It's a cute, really cute, little bitty hut. However, the way the roof attaches to the base makes this an expensive chew toy. I knew it was for the small animal's to nibble on but it is just to easily destroyed. My gerbils ate the roof straps in 2 seconds and deconstructed the top in a few minutes. I put it in their cage after lunch. The next day all that was left was a small round base. It just doesn't last long enough.

There is nothing really wrong with is but I gave 4 stars because my daughters gerbils tore the roof apart about 10 minutes after receiving the house. And now there is just a base sitting in the cage and they done want to chew on it and it doesn't work as a hide out. Next time I will be going with a non-thatched roof type.

This chew toy is appealing to my rabbit, she's destroyed the roof and loves to gnaw on the walled hut.

Do Not be concerned about pine shavings in the ingredients, rabbits eat/chew pine in the wild and although there is a big debate online there is nothing actually proving softwood (especially untreated) like pine is harmful to rabbits.

Anyone who owns a bunny knows that it's extremely important to have things that are safe to chew lying around the house. This is one of those things we love to have around. My 9lb bunny takes a few weeks to go through these, which makes me happy since I have to buy them. It's so much better to have him chewing on this than my carpet.
