I've found the white polishing pad to be more commonly available locally, but have read various reports of those clogging up very quickly, a few days.

I have my FX5 in a 120G tank w/ 2 RES turtles, and about 30 small fish. It's doing the job VERY well, and I find that one of these blue pads above the BioMax is keeping the water clean, and catching plenty of fine material w/o clogging up TOO quickly. I'm replacing it about monthly, but given the stocking level of my tank, and the fact that there's TURTLES, I'm MORE than pleased with these!

I read over and over that the other (white pads) clog too easily and the blue pads (these) work better for water clarity.

I put these in my FX6 used for a turtle setup and the water has been crystal clear since the tank completed its cycle.

I have never used the white pads, but I really see no reason to try them while these are working great.

I did a full review and a detailed setup on the FX6 for my turtle setup you can read if you interested in setting one up for turtles.

Overall I think these are excellent pads and I will continue to use them.

I've had my tank up and running for a month prior to buying the fluval prefilter media, bio media, and filter floss. Before I installed these, my water was fairly clear, just a little cloudy, but nothing that I would have worried about. However, after I put this in, my water was crystal clear. I've never had a tank with water so clear. It's quite amazing. I have a fluval FX5 filter with the prefilter media and a bag of carbon on the top rack, 2nd shelf has 2 boxes of fluval bio media, and 3rd shelf has the filter floss with 2 boxes of biomedia. That's what it took to fill my filter. I found it was cheapest at the time on amazon. I have a 125g tank with a walleye and a couple dozen feeder fish (so a fairly messy bunch of fish). I highly recommend this stuff. Works great (been using this for 3-4 months).

These are really nice and well made pads! I'm using them in my FX5 for a while now. I usually split each pad in half as for me it is working better this way. It polishes the water and keeps it clear. I use 2 half pads in the filter, every time I clean the filter, I rinse one half in the filter water to keep the beneficial bacteria and pressure wash the second half using the garden hose to keep it looks like new. I change the pad every other cleaning. The price is reasonable.

catches a lot of fine particles/bits, works well in conjunction with a FX5 canister & other Fluval media. Keeps my 120g w/ large (12"+) mixed cichlid stock crystal clear. I have several that i rotate out, rinse and reuse, fairly sturdy filter pad.

Its a good product. Good for the Fluval FX5. Very dense filter. Cleans the water very well, but only downside is that it clogs quite fast. Not very fast, but it will clog and stop the water flow eventually. Thus you need to replace the filter pad a lot. It cleans the water better then other pads or filter floss. But, I am trying filter floss now instead of this so I don't have to replace the pads so often. Also, they're difficult to clean out because once they're dirty then its pretty much impossible to clean them and its better to just replace them.

Used it in my Eheim 2015 classic and it worked great and my water is crystal clear. My water turned cloudy since I started using my 2015. But after reading forums added a pad of these to my filter, a whole different ballgame. My fish were so happy I guess they started crossbreeding( Fantail and a blackmoor) and laid hundreds of eggs seriously after a week of having these lol.

I think it is hard for me to judge exactly how well these work, because i implemented a lot of different filter media at the same time. In cooperation with the other media, the water in my tank is good. I have a 75 gallon tank with one red ear slider and a fluval FX5 filter. I use 2 of these pads in 2 different trays.
