Product Description

An essay, a meditation on events that I recall from my service as an Army nurse during the Vietnam War. It describes the disruption of war in the countryside, and is a sort of wartime travelogue of the soul, centering upon a trip to Hue from my first assigned hospital in Phu Bai.

About the Author

Susan Kramer O'Neill is a Midwestern transplanted to New England, so she suffers a stunning array of psychological issues, including a personality split between Writing of Heavy Consequence and loony flights of fancy. This is her fourth Amazon Short, the first non-fiction (“The Bingo Game,” 'Walking Funerals,” and “Things that Go Bump” are all fiction). She is the author of Don't Mean Nothing: Short Stories of Viet Nam, a fiction collection based on her experience as an Army nurse during the Viet Nam war, and edits Vestal Review, a quarterly magazine for flash fiction (http://vestalreview.net). One of her essays about bike pursuits can be found in the collection Bicycle Love. She has published numerous fiction and non-fiction pieces in literary magazines and ezines, was twice nominated for the Pushcart Prize, and a non-fiction piece was cited as a “notable essay” in an edition of Best American Essays.

A beautiful, touching, heartfelt narrative of the human cost of war. A sensitive glimpse at the often overlooked victims: women and children. In only a few pages, Sue paints an unforgettable canvas of war torn Vietnam.
