First off I'd like to say that when reviewing vinyl LP's the review is about the actual LP and not the music on it. I never buy an LP just to see if I like the songs, that's what MP3 downloads are for. In this case the 5 star rating is for the pressing itself and not the music on it.

With that said I'll get on with talking about the actual vinyl pressing.

First I'll start off with the packaging. When shipped from Amazon it is shipped like every other album I've bought, that is sandwiched in a very nice sturdy flat cardboard container made for the job. Once opened the actual album and sleeve is exposed. Unlike most vinyl records that come in a cardboard sleeve this one comes in a clear plastic sleeve. Most vinyl is then also inside of a paper sleeve within the outer cardboard sleeve. This one is not. It is inside of the clear plastic sleeve alone. This is done of course to show of the fact that this pressing is a "picture disc." This is pretty unique among Vinyl LP's and is pretty neat looking. The LP itself contains the artwork that would normally be on the outer album jacket.

There have been a few reviewers who have complained about the plastic jacket. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this araingment. The sleeve is plenty thick to protect the LP during normal handling. Cardboard jackets are not steel vaults either so I see nothing wrong with this one. Most LP's also come with an inner paper sleeve but the fact is, paper sleeves are not the best. The best inner sleeve is a paper sleeve that has an inner plastic lining. I guess the paper sleeves shed as they age where the plastic lined do not. This outer jacket therefore takes place of the outer and inner sleeve and is made from a material superior to paper.

First, this is a great album. The record itself looks beautiful. Maybe it would be great to frame and put on a wall. But audio-wise, it doesn't hold up.
First, the packaging is a flimsy plastic sheet. The record came warped. This is probably a huge issue with picture discs. Picture Discs typically have terrible packaging. I have no idea why it cant come with in a study package like formal records. Maybe the package could a little window so one could see the record.
The record also becomes scratched very easily. I have hundreds of records, and I take good care of all of them. Nothing happened to this on at all. However, there is a chip side, which causes it to skip. Still, you can listen to it. This record is great for collectors, but not for Audiophiles.

My issue is not with the music. This negative review is about the 'picture disc' LP only.

This record is literally unlistenable. Seriously, try to listen to this thing all the way through without experiencing problems. At first, I thought I just got a lemon. But it seems like other people experienced similar, if not the same, issues. So I'm thinking this is just a terrible product.

1. There is no space between the outermost groove and the beginning of the track. When you drop the stylus, you are always already past the beginning of the track.

2. It skips. A lot.

3. It loops. (I was pretty impressed by the looping because I've never actually seen/heard it happen.)

4. Side B is totally warped. I could see the cartridge bobbing and swinging around like a dog in a pickup truck. And needless to say, it sounds awful. The only reason I didn't turn it off was that I paid money for it and figured I should let it play out once.

5. Packaging is virtually non-existent. It comes in a flimsy plastic sleeve and nothing else. Saran Wrap would offer the same amount of protection.

I'd like to reiterate that all five of these issues have already been mentioned by other people with other copies of this product. So I am less convinced mine is a one-off thing.

It's a shame because Sam's Town is a great album. I really wish I could have it on vinyl!

The LP sounds great and it doesn't get any static either. However, there are multiple problems with this package.

The disc itself needed a better enclosure. A plastic sleeve with no sturdiness is not good for the LP. The first time I played the disc, there was one skip on each side. Not so bad though. However, after a handful of plays, there was one looped section on side 2.

My turntable plays other records just fine.

I returned the record for a new one. The first side was perfect. The second side had a skip in it and had a looped section on the exact same part as the first one I received.

You have been warned.

Love this album, had to have it on vinyl. I got it pretty quickly, but:

- the album is warped so the sound whines a little
- the plastic cover that holds it was ripped on one side
- it skips throughout the record's play

Kinda defeats why I bought it. It was only a $10 investment so I'll just keep it, but I am disappointed.

Great album, fantastic songs throughout. As for the picture disc, I haven't encountered any problems the other reviewers have mentioned. It is sealed and protected just as a picture disc should be. It feels very sturdy and does not skip for me at all. I don't doubt that there is a quality loss because it is a picture disc, but for anyone who is not an audiophile, you wouldn't notice a huge difference at all.
