It's confusing that this product is labeled gender changer as seen in the pic, but if you take a second look at the front/back views and think about it for a moment you'll realize this is a short extender and not a gender changer.

I'm using it to disconnect pin 12 (which carries the EDID/"plug-and-play" signal) to deal with a resolution compatibility issue without permanently modifying the device port. By pulling out this pin your computer will see any VGA device as a generic VGA monitor and allow you to manually set any resolution/refresh frequency, and won't try to download drivers for any specific device. The product is also useful as a port saver to protect frequently connected/disconnected ports from wear and tear, or as a riser where space is tight, or as an adapter where there are issues with the retaining screws.

You are all absolutely right-It does NOT change the gender nor was it EVER designed to do so. If you by a vga splitter so you can use your monitor AND big screen TV intchangably without having to change your cables around everytime, you WILL need these.....They are actually EXTENDERS....Hope I can explain this well enough.....When you hook up the vga splitter cable to your PC, you will NOW have 2 connections: One for your monitor and one for your tv. Guess what? The 2 cable ends now coming out of your pc and the cables coming from the monitor and tv ALL have those easy screws coming out of them. You cannot screw a screw to a screw. So what is the solution? This extender adapter. You screw one to your monitor cable, and then presto!, you still have places to screw your other cable into....Same thing with the cable for your tv. If you are looking to change your gender, you will need a similar but different device, either a female-to-female adapter or a male-to-male adapter. Lastly, the venders on amazon.com get rated by how many stars we give them. It amazes me that people will give a company a ONE star rating, when they don't even know what they bought....Buy the right product next time.....Hope this helps......

I use these at all the conference and community rooms where i have projectors set up. I put them on the ends where users use to plug on to their laptops. The pins on the VGA cables wear out quickly and these adapters help save the life of the cables. It's easier and cheaper to change these then the cables. great product.

These are the best solution for anyone using long VGA cables to projectors where multiple users constantly plug and unplug their device.. 9 out of 10 users never check proper pin alignment and will damage pins on your expensive extension cable.. so for a few bucks I put this on all the projectors at my church and when they damage the pins I just change out the coupler instead of the whole cable!!

I bought this knowing very well that this is not a gender changer. I am currently using it as a port riser to raise the vga port on the back of a motherboard above a certain height. Otherwise, a vga cable plugged directly into the port will obstruct an adjacent USB port, rendering that USB port inaccessible. (Poor design on the part of the motherboard manufacturer). For this purpose, this vga adaptor (or should I say, riser) fulfills its purpose. The additional 0.5" height it provides steers clear of the USB port. If your intention is to connect two vga cables together, you probably would need a female - female gender changer instead.
