I tried this card on two different Linux machines (Fedora and Mint), and it worked fine with both. Benchmarking shows a consistent 85.8 megabytes per second transfer. Using sysbench over sshfs/fuse shows acceptable performance between the two systems.

Installed this card on Windows 7 64bit, drivers updated automatically, online with the card at full gigabit speeds within minutes.

Helpful tip for Windows users... leave your 'old' ethernet card in place with ethernet cable plugged in, then install this card without plugging in any ethernet cables. Turn on computer and let Windows do its magic and find the latest drivers for the new card automatically (via internet through your 'old' ethernet card). Once the driver install finishes for the new card, unplug the ethernet cable from the 'old' card and plug it into the newly installed card. After about 30 seconds while Windows configures the new card, you'll be online. No need to install any additional drivers via disc or otherwise.

I got this to add another network port to a media server. Essentially I just needed a network port to receive a video signal from a network device in my house. This works perfectly. I installed it in the computer and Windows 7 (64 bit) had it already working, right after boot. My computer already had a Realtek based network card, so it just used that driver. The adapter works great and being PCI installed with no problem on my computer. It has been working receiving 1080P TV signal feed non stop and has had no problem. For around ten dollars, this is a great card, being Gigabit and not Fast ethernet it is a great buy and works perfectly!

In the end this card works perfectly! It is super cheap and even at its price point it is Gigabit (usually in this price range you only find Fast Ethernet). I am very happy with this and if I need another PCI network adapter I will definitely get this one!

I got this adapter from amazon a few days ago. I must say I am very happy with it's performance. It connects a 1 gigabit every time I reboot my server with Debian Linux. Great adapter and thanks for the good price.

I have used Encore network devices for years and I've never had a single product fail prematurely or for any reason outside an act of Mother Nature. A recent storm blew out the network on a couple of friends' PCs. These Ethernet adapter cards plugged in with ease and I had both units back on the network in no time. I absolutely will purchase this brand and product again.

After many attempts to get this thing to work, I've given up.

Firstly, you absolutely MUST have the manufacturer's driver installer in order for Windows to even recognize it - Windows will not automatically find and install the driver for it, like it will most any other hardware you install. A minor annoyance, but worth noting.

Second - once you finally get the driver installed, Device Manager gives the card's status as Code 12 (some error about the device not being able to find the resources it needs to function correctly). Upon a quick Google of this code, it would appear something has already been assigned the same I/O ports. After uninstalling/disabling every other network-related function on my desktop, the error persists (even after several reboots). The only other NIC on my desktop is the one integrated into the motherboard... Still, no dice.

Long story short, what should have been a simple, 5-minute task got dragged out into an hour-long waste of time, and the damned thing STILL doesn't work. You don't have to spend more money, just don't get this particular card.

We have Windows 7 pro on our desk top and upgraded to a Docsis III modem, but was still getting a "choppy" internet connection. Figured having a gigabit connection from the modem to the 10/100 router and computer would vastly improve the internet quality. It did not.

So, we ordered a gigabit router and this 1 gigabit PCI adapter. With the power off,I removed the 56K Fax modem and replaced it with Encore gigabit PCI adapater. Turned on computer and was waiting for "Windows has found a new device". No message.

Check the control panel and everything was functioning properly...decided to unpluged the ethernet cable from the 10/100 port/jack that is part of the Motherboard and plugged the cable into the Encore Adapter. The lights on the Adapter came on...a good sign. Then opened the browser and the homepage came right up! Start browsing and the connection was lightening fast!

This Encore gigabit PCI Adapter is truely plug and play, no complicated set up in Windows 7. I highly recommend this Adapter.

Pro: Plug and play (No complicated set up)
10/100/1000 auto selecting
Fast internet connection and refresh rate
Costs under $10 (US)

Con: None have been experineced so far

I have a Dell OptiPlex 3020 with Windows 7. The Encore EN-GA1320 PCIe worked only intermittently. The Ethernet activity LED would not blink and troubleshooting revealed error "Ethernet cable is not connected". The Ethernet cable was good and replacing the PCIe card with a different manufacturer completely solved the problem. I don't know how widespread this problem is with Dell models.
