Biography

Like their name suggests, Suburban Kids with Biblical Names draw on influences from the highly literate and playful '90s U.S. indie scene. Traces of Silver Jews, Pavement, and Magnetic Fields can be heard. But much more than actually sounding like these bands, the near-unique Suburban Kids with Biblical Names share their penchant for mixing intelligent and humorous lyrics with irresistible classic… Read more in Amazon's Suburban Kids With Biblical Names Store

Editorial Reviews

Product Description

Originally released in 2005 and reissued in '06 on the Minty Fresh label, #3 is actually the first full-length album by the Swedish indie-pop duo Suburban Kids with Biblical Names. (#1 and #2 are EPs.) While the acoustic-guitar-toting Scandinavian pair invites comparisons to Norway's Kings of Convenience, Peter Gunnarson and Johan Hedberg actually hew closer to the eclectic and eccentric sound of fellow Swede Jens Lekman, as revealed on the light, lilting "Funeral Face" and the ridiculously catchy, lo-fi "Rent a Wreck," which features an infectious "ba-ba-ba" chorus. Irrepressibly witty, fun, and happy rock 'n' roll from a duo who sound like children who've played together forever. Exuberant, joyful; it even puts a bounce in yer booty.

5.0 out of 5 stars Scandtastic., September 27, 2007
Firstly I apologise for the title of the review, I don't know what came over me.

I bought this album on recommendation so I didn't know what to expect. I was very pleasantly surprised.
What you get from this Swedish duo, is fabulous sunny pop, wry humour and a bucket load of instantly catchy melodies. There really is not a duff track on the album. I guess you'd have to place this in the 'indie ghetto' but I wish so-called main stream pop could be this effortlessly enjoyable.

Go on take a gamble, like I did. If you like your music with some rough edges left unpolished, and full of joyous melodic sunshine, I don't think you'll regret it.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great album, December 20, 2009

I found this group while spending a restless day about the house listening to music on Pandora. The first song I heard was "Rent a Wreck". I closed Pandora and found the group on Youtube. I checked out other songs as well. My favourite that I found was "Seems to be on My Mind". I would've bought the album on the strength of that song alone... but this isn't an article about how I found SKWBN.

I got the album about two weeks ago and it hasn't left my car CD player for a minute. There's a lot of really strong songs hear. I think they use background voices well. The fourth track, whose name I don't recall, reads like the story of my life and makes me nostalgic for a neighborhood in New Orleans. Another song, "Peter's Dream" is dissonant, and has a surf-ish guitar.

It sounds to me like SKWBN were having fun making this album; experimenting with insturments and sound... Its an airy album that has really grown on me. I don't think its perfect, 'cos there are a couple songs I tend to skip, namely, the first track. Still, I'm going to check out more stuff from this group in the future.

I'd recommend this album to people who like to take chances trying new music. But, if you're looking at this page now, then you've probably sampled SKWBN.
