This has been a huge hit in our neighborhood, so it's gotten a lot of use. The ball is nice and soft, and the kids love it. However, the rope/cord has begun to unravel at the end closest to the ball... no doubt from the occasional grabbing of the string by various kids. Because of this, the ball hangs nearly to the ground and the rope is very thin there. So, I've looked at the products offered by Tachikara (on Amazon) and have yet to find where they sell any replacement ropes... you have to buy the ball again to get the rope that comes with it... that doesn't make much sense.

Great tetherball for the money. Includes clip to attach to pole. Didn't fade in the sun after 1 month so far (others we had did).

My family LOVES to play tether ball and this is one of our favorite ones to play with because it is softer than others and has outlasted others that we paid more for. The only thing we did not like was the rope that came with it. The rope WOULD NOT stay tied or knotted and the ball would fly off during a game and we would have to chase it down. My husband replaced the rope with one that he uses for setting trot lines (for fishing) and it does not sun rot or fray and the ball doesn't come off.
It is suggested that you do not leave the ball outside while not in use. I live in Texas and our pole is in direct sun. We leave ours outside attached to the pole, but all we have noticed is the color has faded slightly and we have to occasionally add air to the ball after a couple weeks.
This is GREAT for kids because it won't sting as bad as the other balls (my son took quite a shot to the face while trying to hit the ball and all he did was laugh). I will say, be careful when playing because my son has gotten excited and stepped too far forward and got his arm caught in the rope. It didn't hurt him but I would still use caution with younger children.
Anyway, WE LOVE TETHERBALL and this is our favorite ball!

I read SOMEONE was having trouble KEEPING the AIR in their Tether Ball.
Gran'pa always told ME to spit -- or use VASOLINE on the ball needle to
keep the rubber [inside the ball] from ripping... and losing air.

Okay, THAT said, you can pay from $40 to $444 for a "complete" Tetherball
set, but the only part you CANNOT jury-rig, yourself, is the ball, itself.

Get THIS, and all you need to do is sink a pole in the ground.
...............................................................................
Here's a SNEAKY trick:
Buy a four-foot piece of threaded [on one end] metal pipe. Buy a pipe cap
to cover the top [threaded] end. Pound it in the ground -- exactly straight --
with a sledge hammer. Remove the cap with an appropriate wrench when it is
nearest to the grass-surface.
Remove the cap.
Put a double ended pipe-connector where the cap WAS.
Connect another piece of the same size pipe to that so the two are ONE...
don't forget to place a hook-eye inserted into the cap* you originally used
to BEGIN the project, which will be on the top of the pole, when finished.
Worked for ME, and I can remove the pole in the winter. I got an additional
cap so I could avoid a rusty-thread problem, after the winter months.

*= denotes I drilled my pipe cap with a bench drill. Hook up the ball to it
before putting the assembled product together. Looks great. Heavy duty, and
won't fall over and get ME sued when it hits a kid in the head. I was thinking
about putting a weather vane -- or something -- on another pole for when the
grand kids/nieces/nephews aren't around. Clever, huh?

My son has beat this to death on our home build cement tire tetherball court. It has taken a beating and still looks and performs great.

Tips - Do not leave it on the pole when not in use. It really isnt hard to take down. To make it easier, get a simple metal clip from a home improvement store that is stronger than the one that it comes with. Will last longer and help the ball and rope last longer.

If you want to make a home tetherball court, look up plans for a cement tire DIY. I found a tire on the highway, 14 to 15 inch is plenty. Three bags of concrete and a metal fence post. Took a day for concrete to set and we were in business. Costs about $30 all in. Make sure you put a topper on the fence post to keep water out.

I know a lot about tetherball and there were only two choices in purchasing a name that offered long lasting quality. Product arrived early. The soft type is most comfortable having a recessed bar and comes with a nylon rope. This recessed bar is a feature that I was looking for. Also something that was not hard, less stinging, and would wear well for years. The manufacturer has a website to review this as well. We did not want the aluminum pole set that would not last. We used a pvc pipe insert into the ground (you tube) so that the pole can be removed to mow. We used a heavier gauge steel, you could use a fence post...and made our own. Cost was less than purchasing a set and the outcome is endurance.
