5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent extension, especially because it is removable..., September 8, 2008
As an on-and-off pro photographer, I need something that shoots pro-quality pictures, but since I am a field photographer not a studio photographer, I wanted something smaller, more compact, more rugged, and less expensive than the top end Cannons. I have no interest in risking a five to ten thousand dollar piece of equipment as I shoot out the window of a moving jeep. I also want something that is a little easier to carry around and doesn't require the standard photographic luggage. So I picked the K20D, which is the smallest and sturdiest DSLR I can find. It's also at a good price, and shoots great pictures.

Thus, the BG2 battery grip is perfect for me. Like an expensive pro camera, I have controls for vertical shooting, and nice balance with longer lenses. Unlike an expensive pro camera, I can take the bulky bottom grip off when I want to slim the camera down!

This is also great for field work, because it stores an extra card, an extra battery, and the remote control, rather than leaving me juggling a bunch of little boxes cluttering up my bag. Because I shoot in full manual mode and do most of my photo editing (eg, noise reduction) on my computer not in the camera, the K20D uses virtually no power. I can shoot for four weeks / 1000 photos on a single battery without recharging. The optimized "auto" setting drawing from whichever battery has higher output does a little better than double that, because by switching back and forth it can take advantage of the bounce after a battery is turned off then on. The Lithium Ion batteries are great, and don't have memory and heat problems of Nickle MH batteries, so you can use these ones all the way, and recharge whenever you feel like it.

On the whole, I use this rather than carrying a bag full of backup batteries and cards, and it's perfect.

Great addon to the k10d....adds longer power, provides better grip. Feels like a pro camera should. also added release button for more natural hand placement when camera vertical....

5.0 out of 5 stars Pentax Battery Grip BG-2, September 10, 2007
This battery grip is a well-constructed, solid accessory for the Pentax K10d SLR. It's a bit heavier than I expected but I prefer something substantial rather than a light flimsy product. The fit and finish is first class and matches the K10d body perfectly. I like the way it can be stored conveniently without the protruding rod extending into the camera body. Good design by Pentax.

3.0 out of 5 stars Vertical grip not that great
I ordered this but returned it as I found the vertical grip to be too narrow for a comfortable hold. I have fairly big hands so that might have something to do with it. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes the camera more solid
The K20D is somewhat smaller than the Canon 40D I also use, thus adding more area to hold is an avantage. The grip is the perfect solution. Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Useless for anything but an added hand grip.
I bought the grip for the (supposedly) doubled battery life for time lapse shots and such. This grip does not double your battery life. Read more
