A few weeks ago I purchased an Intel DX58SO Core I7 motherboard, After building the computer I found that the board only comes with an HD Audio Front panel header. I was using an properly vented case with both 120 mm front and back fans that was only 2 years old, however the case only had an AC'97 audio front panel connector. For those that are not aware HD Audio or Intel code name Azalia, uses the same pin header configuration for AC'97 however the pin outs are completely different. Therefore, in order to use the front panel audio jack on the motherboard I needed a different set of audio jacks that are compatible with HD Audio. So in order to solve the problem i needed either new jacks or a new case. I really like the case I have and did not want to change it just for new audio jacks, so I purchased this item, and well it works flawlessly. After about 10 minutes of installation I booted the computer, plugged in the front panel microphone and headphones and as I stated before flawless operation. Even better was the 1394 port, which the case had a punch-out for but no adapter on the dongle. I firmly recommend this item for anyone with a new motherboard and an older case.

Unlike a lot of similar items, this has a stiff metal casing with threaded screw holes. The fit into my 3.5" slot was a bit tight but at least it won't wiggle.

The wires are clearly marked, nicely shielded, and are long enough. The USB and audio ports do not feel like they are about to fall out.

I didn't test firewire (don't have it on my board) but the 4 USB's and Audio worked fine. This unit comes with two audio connectors - AC97 and Azalea style (aka HD-Audio). My Board (MSI 785GTM-E45) uses Azalea Style header (this was hard to figure out, but it does say that in the manual. With this connector, Windows 7 detects presence of the headphones and switches over (at least that's the default behavior). Microphone works as well.

I checked the unit for shorts and mis-wires with a DMM first - everything is connected correctly. USB connectors have an extra 'Shiled' pin but I have neither the need nor the ability to use it.

I'm glad I bought this instead of the the multi-function card reader alternatives - I've yet to find one with good reviews.

The FP32 (guess the B is for black) is solidly built out of aluminum. It has four individual cables, one for each USB port and is not a USB hub, which is what I wanted. No hub hassles.

The audio cable has two header connectors on it, one for Azalia and one for AC97. My P8H67-V mobo can use either one but I connected the AC97 since I'll only use stereo headphones on the front jack.

My mobo doesn't have a 1394 header so I'm not using that.

The unit was a "tight" fit in my Antec case's drive cage and required some forceful pushing to get it in. The 4 provided screws are too big and I have no idea why they were included. Be sure to have 4 usual hard drive type mounting screws on hand to mount this unit in a 3.5 inch drive cage. The threads match normal hdd mounting screws perfectly.

I ohm'ed out every USB wire before installing to be sure I didn't burn out anything when I plugged stuff in. All wires were correctly wired. Just refer to your motherbd manual to see where the +5 volt and ground pins are. The red wires are +5 volts and the black wires are ground to each USB connector.

The audio connectors have a blocked pin so they can only be installed correctly provided that the audio header on your motherbd has a missing pin for proper keying. I matched the wiring on the AC97 header anyway just to be sure and it was correct.

Gained 4 USB-2 ports, a mic in and an audio out on my front panel which is just great. Tested the green audio out using headphones and it works perfectly. Didn't test the mic in yet but I'm confident it will work fine as well.

Be sure to buy a 3.5" to 5.25" adapter if your case doesn't have 3.5" front panel capability.

Very happy with my purchase.

Overall a great product. Took a while to install on a already built system, but that was just because of all the other components and the cables associated with them got in the way. If you are upgrading a system, take your time doing this. This product comes with two audio plugins, "Azalia" and "AC'97". Use Azalia for hd audio, which most if not all motherboards have now. "AC'97" is an older format which some, such as my motherboard, doesn't even support, unless some bios changes are made. Since I used the Azalia audio plugin, my audio now works through the front, which wasn't the case previously.
Also, make sure you line up the vcc/5v wire (the red one) on the plug with the pin on the usb header labeled 5v/vcc. If this isn't done right, you can short-circuit your motherboard. You are able to put two on each "grouping" of pins, so don't send this back because the pins are in two rows and the plug is only one row wide. And as for the separate "shield" wire attached to each usb plug, ignore them. In most cases, you don't need to plug them in at all.
As said before, just take your time and you will have more usb slots, as well as audio and a firewire port, in no time.
