2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing......, February 12, 2007
I understand these weekend festivals are awesome, so it's too bad we only get a snippet of the music played. I think, for 20 dollars, a double disc is warranted (only 5 Cracker and 8 CVB songs are included). The Cracker stuff is good, especially Movie Star. That being said, this band has become very limited in their song selection, and varying their set list would go a long way.

The CVB stuff sounds pretty bad, the New Roman Times songs never did translate well live, a product of an album that tried too hard, betraying the irreverent sound that made them so special. Might Makes Right in particular sounds very poor. Where are all the fun instrumentals?!?

It would be great to have more Monks of Doom, where only 2 songs appear. The solo stuff is what it is, as the sum of these bands really outweighs the individual parts.

It's too bad this wasn't in 5.1 DTS, as that would have lifted this sound from near bootleg quality.

Save your cash for the rumored 2002 reunion DVD from Great American Music Hall......

4.0 out of 5 stars Good not great, March 25, 2007
By legweak (Smithfield, VA USA) - See all my reviews
I bought this because I'm a sucker for Cracker and CVB, and I used to hang out at Pappy and Harriet's Pioneertown Palace. This is a pretty good video, but it's definitely got a home-grown feel to it, which can be construed as unprofessional. I don't consider it unprofessional, just simple. I liked the combo of performances, although I would have loved more of CVB and Cracker.

This is worth a look if you like the bands, for sure.

Wow, this thing has it all. Some fine performances by Cracker (easily sounds the best and most alive) to CVB (best songs and arrangments- but performance is just so so) to Monks of Doom (rocks more than the others for what's that's worth) - to a bunch of rather low-fi-esque ramblings that makes your not-sweaty-enough fingers move towards the FF button. I hit it often.

Cracker: The sound is reallly good on their stuff, they must have slipped the mixer an extra buck. Johnny Hickman has the tone that makes young girls to old men stand up and say YES JOHNNY. It's great to hear lowery playing a Les Paul. it sounds better/thicker than that tacky green guitar setup he has been pluckering for years. Good song choices, but I could have used more, espeically from Gent's Blues, their best record if you ask me. You didn't but I told you anyway. That's because I'm a Leo. I'm not a Leo. Nevemind. I'm tired of Low. Aren't you?

I liked Hickman's solo set. I didn't know where else to mention that. I guess that was a good place.

CVB: New Roman Times is wonderful. The best record they have done in some ways. The songs only come off OK live, as it were. Take the Skinheads Bowling holds up better than Citizen Cane. The former underrated, the latter overrated.

The audience: They sure love their crappy little digital cameras. Please put them away. Give the audience their own mic.

Overall: Better than watching Judge Judy and eating a tv dinner. A true American clan of quality-minded songmakers. May they camp forever green.
