Smith and Wesson are kings when it comes to handcuffs. since they made hinged cuffs, they only went up the perfection. what makes hinged cuffs superior over chain is simple. prisoners, suspects, etc. cannot manipulate hinged cuffs to hurt you, as chained cuffs can. believe it or not, you can break someones hand with chained cuffs if your the one wearing the cuffs! i won't explain how, but criminals get bored. the finish is great on these, i was on a 9 month deployment at sea, and experienced a little rust. although all i had to do was take a clean rag and wipe the rust off and there was no damage to the finish.

Just as listed, reading the comments some people though the color was blue and not black. Its called a Blued finish. Blueing is an oxidizing process that protects the metal from rust etc. All cuffs will rust over time if not oiled properly.

I chose this color to blend in better on the front of my duty belt in my kydex cuff and mag holder.

I've had a pair of these for years, and have been very pleased. The unusual center hinge is extremely solid compared to most other brands, and the cuff construction is overall great S&W quality. The side-mounted double lock is different, but works well. Fit runs somewhat small, making them a very secure choice for women to average-size men, but really large guys may not fit into them well. Fits standard keys; other cuffs are available with tumbler locks, or these can be worn with a keyhole-covering lockbox and waist chain when added security is desirable.

These cuffs aren't stainless, they're spring steel. They can rust, but they're very elastic, so instead of breaking with extreme force, this kind of steel will just bend and deform.

Just be careful you don't slap them both on to the same arm with the key-holes facing inward. It will become impossible to fit a key in. If this does happen to you, as it happened to me, (because I'm an idiot), it might be possible to create a tiny-key if you have shop tools and a welding torch with which to mount the key-tip on a strip of sheet metal, so you can fit in in flat and turn the lock from the side... Beats having to pay for new ones because you had to use bolt-cutters.

This is the review you should actually listen to.

I bought several pairs of these cuffs in order to go with that all black look. I mean they look cool right? 4.5 star review average at the time of this review so how could anyone go wrong right?

Wrong.

Unlike every other pair of chrome handcuffs I have ever owned and used, these cuffs actually rust between arrests. Now they sit on my parking brake for emergency purposes. This applies to both, the hinged and chain cuffs.

Before you attempt to debunk my review by stating that I should try lubrication or graphite. Know that I have tried both and work the cuffs loose in my spare time and they still rust. I also work in the busiest section of a busy city so using the handcuffs more often is not the issue.

Hopefully this review helps you in deciding if going to the black cuffs is worth it. Other officer's advised me of the rusting only after I began to wear them. Sure it looks cool, but not cool enough.

Ordered these Smith & Wesson hinged handcuffs for work. They are excellent quality but a little stiff when you get them. I took a little spray of Ballistal on the moving parts and worked them for about 5 minutes and now they are perfect. I've had them now for about six months and the finish on them are as good now as it was the day I got them. If I ever need another pair this will be the pair I buy again.
