I shop on Amazon.com all the time and love the convenience of it. The main drawback, of course, is the inability to handle, touch, feel, examine etc the item(s) under consideration. We have purchased one large and three medium versions of this bed. We have been extremely happy with these beds and our dogs have been too. The main reason for choosing this bed was because it had very high bolsters which we had been searching for. The downside to the beds is the fact that they do not have a zipper to wash the cover separately from the filling, but for the price who cares. There is a laundry mat close to our house and every couple of weeks I go in and use their largest machine to wash these beds in and then I come home and put them out back to air dry and they come out looking like new.

As I mentioned the large bolsters were the selling point for me on these beds so you can imagine how disappointing it was to open up the most recent bed only to see that the bolsters have shrunk! In my rage I grabbed the camera and started snapping photos to post on Amazon : ) .....just jokes, but I was curious to measure and see if they were smaller or if it was just an illusion. I measured all three of the medium beds at four locations around each bed and then came to an average for each bed. The amount of material used to make the bolsters on the two older beds were 20" and 21". The newest one I received today came in at only 14". The footprints of all three beds were identical they just decreased the amount of material being used around the exterior by 6-7 inches. The height of the bolster is now level with the actual bed.

Seems like every year I begin my search anew for a great dog bed. Bought this one last year, and while my dog does love it (she's a good dog, she'll sleep in whatever I give her), I would not recommend this bed to others for one reason: it doesn't have a removable cover. It goes without saying that this is a very important feature in a dog bed! I've read here that others have thrown the entire bed into the washer and dryer? I have a large capacity (non-commercial) washer and dryer in my house, and while the bed does fit inside of it, it fits so snug that machines struggle to clean it. (I'm not one to take my dirty, fur-laden items to the local laundromat to use the commercial machines.) So after cleaning this bed for months by hand, I will be throwing it out in a few weeks as it has become to dirty and smelly to keep around much longer.

A dog bed should be big and fluffy, to protect my dog's joints. It should come in neutral colors so it's not an eyesore in whatever room it's kept. It should be lined with a material that keeps my dog warm in the winter, and cool in the summer. (I have bed sheets with these properties, I think.) It should have a removable cover that I can wash, and that can stand up to repeated washings, (a lot of covers I've had fall apart after a few cycles.) And it should be filled with materials that don't absorb odors. It should not cost as much as my human bed, but I would be more than willing to shell out the bucks for a bed that will last more than 6 months.

Where can I find such a bed? Does it exist?

The bed is soft and has lots of cushioning at the bottom, but the inside dimensions are misleading. Our 75 lb dog barely fits in it. To get the inside measurements they describe, you'd have to stretch the bed walls out. With bed just laying there the inside dimensions I measured were closer to 19"x26". Much smaller than advertised. The walls of the bed have very little filling, and it looks like they'll flatten quickly. We have another bed that was advertised as only a couple of inches larger, but in reality is about 6 to 8 inches larger in diameter. If you have a larger dog and want a bed that fits, I would think twice before getting this bed.

I bought this bed for my wheaten terrier who is just under 30" from head to tail and 36 lbs. The large-sized bed has more than enough room to allow him to sleep completely stretched out. It even fits in his crate! He loves the high sides on the bed because he feels protected from all sides and can use them as a pillow. The bed is super cushy and takes a while for it to lose its puffiness which is great! To re-inflate, just wash and dry - it doesn't fit in my washing machine, but I just take it down to the laundromat and use the extra large washer/dryer. We love it so much we're going to get a second one for the bedroom so that he has a place to sleep other than in my bed!

I must say that I like the concept of this dog bed. However, the description says 40"; and this one is only 35"(The inside dimension is 27" long). It matters because I have on Old English Sheepdog that is close to 90 pounds. She loves the bolster, but can barely fit inside and ends up lying outside the bed with her head perched on the bolster. I am sure that a smaller dog would love to curl up inside, but not my poor Hatti.
