The 120 softgel version is almost 50% more expensive than the tablet version. I thought I was getting a good deal by ordering the tablet version, having bought the softgel version previously. But the nutrition label of the tablet bottle, even though yielding the same 2mg Astaxanthin as the softgel bottle, shows a very different amount of the raw materials ( Haematococcus pluvialis algae extract ) used to make the 2mg Astanxanthin, than the softgel bottle label. I asked Source Naturals about this big difference via email but they never replied. In addition, the softgel version indicates "AstaREAL" but the tablet version does not. So one has to be careful to examine the differences between a softgel and tablet version of the same supplement supplied by the same supplier.

Ingredients:

- Calcium 123mg
- Pfaffia rhodozyma Extract 200mg (yielding 2mg of Astaxanthin)

Other ingredients:

- dibasic calcium phosphate
- stearic asid
- hydroxypropyl cellulose
- microcrystalline cellulose
- colloidal silicon dioxide
- modified cellulose gum

The bottle has the following warning notice on it:

WARNING: Not intended for long term use. Not for use by children. If you are pregnant, may become pregnant, or breast feeding, consult your healthcare professional before using this product.

There is no labeling on the bottle as far as it being gluten free or not (source of cellulose listed in the ingredients?).

I wish Amazon would make the list of ingredients a required part of the product description for all food and medicine items.

I've been taking this product off and on for short periods of time (not continuously, because of the warning on the bottle.) I have not finished the first bottle I ordered yet. Each tablet contains 2mg of astaxanthin. Research (see here: [...]) seems to suggest that at least 12mg's per day is needed to get the full benefits. And then again, the bottle says "Not for long term use."

Dr. Mercola describes Astaxanthin as the most powerful antioxidant on the market. As we learn more about the cancer risks associated with oxygen free radicals (a normal byproduct of cellular metabolism) the more products like this make sense. Source Naturals is a company I trust and I have been taking their products for years. It turns out that their brand of Astaxanthin is also one of the least expensive on the market. So, with little to lose and potentially much to gain . . . I bought this product and take it everyday.

I have a weak immune system, and have been convinced this is an important and affordable supplement. Personally I take double the daily amount with no side effects except that as I had read on Dr. Mercola's website, my skin has gotten a bit more rosy or less sallow. Astaxanthin in their natural food is what causes flamingos to be pink! The tablets have a slightly fishy taste, but they don't leave you with fishy burps the way fish oils or krill oil can. Also, I believe you can get them in a gel capsule which has no taste. Read up on this supplement, especially if you sunburn easily or are concerned about vision (I think I remember reading it is protective or supportive of eye health).
