I ordered this to cut some threads into my SKS to mount a scope. I lucked onto a used drill press (16 speed) for $50 and used that to chuck the drill bit and bore the holes at about 800 RPM. I used a small adjustable wrench on the tap for the handle along with a tap guide to ensure I kept things straight. The tap worked perfectly and the screws went in smoothly and hold tight. I definitely recommend this set to create perfect screw holes for the 8-40 screws.

There's nothing fancy about it. It's a drill bit and a tap. They worked fine. This is the larger size Weaver uses. It fit the screws supplied with my #1 Side Mount.

The drill bit worked fine. I drilled through the steel on my busted up old Mauser receiver just fine. Make sure you use a cutting oil when drilling and tapping. Be sure to back the tap out every half turn to clean out debris and apply new oil.

All three holes took about 10 minutes.

The bit and tap got the job done. I only used them once (three holes), but they worked fine and didn't break. That's what I bought them for, so I'm happy!

Hard to find elsewhere or more expensive. This is a great deal. Shipping is fast. Both bit and tap are very sharp. This is a through tap not a blind tap. Use on through holes only.

In the old days, you didn't get much better than Hansen drill bits and taps. I guess not so these days. I needed to drill and re-thread a scope mount on a steel receiver. This set did a fine job, as long as the tap was sharp. Unfortunately, that was only for 2 1/2 holes! I know better than to try and force a tap so, I'll have to buy another!
