I believe that safe manufacturers should list the thickness of the door and walls on any cabinet, strong box, or safe that they produce. I used a pair of calipers to measure the thickness of the door and walls since Stack-On didn't provide this information.

The door of the PS-515 is 0.155 inches thick (9 gauge steel plus the paint).
The box walls of the PS-515 are 0.081 inches thick (14 gauge steel plus the paint).

For comparison: The edges of a filing cabinet that I was able to measure were 0.030 inches thick (22 or 23 gauge steel). The various parts of a basic gun cabinet that I measured were 0.055 to 0.065 inches thick (17 or 16 gauge steel). Better residential "safes" typically have 0.1196 inch thick (11 gauge) or thicker bodies and a 0.1793 inch thick (7 gauge) or thicker doors.

Overall, I really like the Stack-On PS-515. I wish the door and walls were slightly thicker and I wish the build quality was a little bit higher. However, the door and walls are much thicker than similar units from SentrySafe and other vendors that I was able to compare against in local stores.

Hopefully, others will find this information useful when considering the Stack-On PS-515.

I also recommend looking at the top reviews for the Stack-On PS-514.
The PS-515 and PS-514 have identical construction (including metal thickness, locking mechanism, and hinges), only differing in the size of the box.
All strengths or vulnerabilities of the PS-514 will also apply to the PS-515.

I was looking for a medium size, medium quality, lockable box to store small hand guns away from honest folks.

This is light weight single wall construction that will not be suited to fire protection nor would I put important papers or jewelry in it... Either would be way above my expectation for this $100 safe. But for storing several handguns away from kids and domestic help, this is ideal. The code goes in fast, there is a key that will over ride the combo and once open you can reset and put in a new combo in a few moments.

Purchased this safe on Amazon due to very good price. I knew going into purchasing this safe that it will be used for important documents, fine items, and any other item I didn't want in the open/drawer. The safe construction is well-made but actually not as thick as fire-proof safes. Obviously, since this is storage safe that is not fire-proofed, items are only safeguarded from entry into the safe and not necessarily external heat, water damage or fire. Other than that, it does its main function (to secure items that you don't want laying around). I recommend to take advantage of the 8 pre-punched holes for concrete/wall screws (4 holes on the bottom plate, 4 holes on the back wall plate). I would then buy a concrete drill bit to drill into the concrete floor (as well as a regular wood/drywall rated bit for securing to the back wall). By doing this, the safe is more secured in place (may slow down theft because you would have to apply a lot of force to pry/pull safe when all 8 holes are secured with screws). Additionally, for the price of the safe, it is doing what I expect it to do and that is secure items I don't want left in the open or in a unsecured drawer. Again, if you are looking for fire-proof, heavy, .5"-1" thick-walled safe, please look to more expensive/heavier models, or if possible, get a safety deposit box at a bank. I view this product as a convenient, user-friendly item that suits my needs. My only "area for improvement" would most likely be the rotating door handle. Rotating lock handle works fine but feels "light" when I turn it (feels of less quality), although the door itself is heavy. The keypad is easy to program and no miss-reads as of yet. Also, having a spare-key is nice in case battery power loss occurs. Overall, I am happy with the purchase, because I knew what I was getting by researching the product relative to its use.

So right off the bat I noticed some problems when I took it out of its box.

1: The shelf inside is not attached, but simply "sits" on ledges. So during shipping it simply fell off and rattled around, causing damage to the foam "flooring" and internal battery cover.

2: Speaking of the foam "flooring". Its not attached but is simply thin pieces of foam that sit via gravity on the shelves. And by thin i mean THIN. Its basically worthless thin foam like the kind you would see in a cheap toolkit. This means you cant slide ANYTHING in the safe without the foam moving with it and it would be very easy to rip it. So consider this safe lacking any sort of foam or cushioning.

3: After playing around with the safe code system, I discovered that while it does work, occasionally if the knob isn't "seated" just right, it will NOT allow the code to function, even IF the safe is locked. So sometimes you have to jiggle the knob and try the code several times to get it to unlock. Also, the safe feels a bit more flimsy then expected. This same problem also prevents the safe from auto locking, and if you are not listening for the click, you could very easy shut the door, and walk away not knowing the safe is still completely unlocked.

4: Very disappointed in the front of the safe where the lip between the door and the outer walls was bigger then anticipated. Big enough to get a crowbar in. SO yea... real safe. I mean I wasnt expecting high end safe here, but still, its a design flaw that shouldn't even exist on a toy safe.

5: Fair warning... the safes "floor" attachments are not heavy duty at all (I had not planned to use them anyway) but they are pretty small and I could easily see this being pried up with not much effort.

For $90 I was expecting more. I am returning it.
