5.0 out of 5 stars It ain't pretty anymore but I still have my bike, December 25, 2006
I live in NYC and somehow have never had my bike tampered with until last week. Left my bike locked up for around 45 minutes and when I came down the lock was beat to hell but they didn't manage to break it. Really glad I locked up both wheels. Anyway, the lock still functions just fine despite being brutalized. I think I'll send Kryptonite some cookies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth it!, August 2, 2008
I bought this and the OnGuard Pitbull Mini Ulock to see which is better (my area is not really bike friendly, so no real bike racks, etc). Mainly, I needed something I could carry for running out to the store, etc, but didn't want to be weighted down by a heavier chain on my daily drive. After receiving both, I decided to send the Pitbull back.

First impressions: The chain and lock are huge, weighing in at nearly 5 pounds. More importantly, it screams 'scr*w you' to a bike thief. While all locks/chains/cables are deterrents and can be defeated with the proper tools (power or ortherwise) given time, it's hard to believe that someone would mess with this one as long as you use common sense and park in a traveled area and to a secure post. A lot of the bikes I've seen around here use flimsy cable locks, so I guess I'll be parking next to them from now on:-)

Actual use: The key has to be down all the way before you turn it to unlock or lock. However, locking/unlocking the disc lock is smooth as silk. Now I have the two foot version of this chain (the 4 foot is 8 pounds, I think) so you have to make sure that your bike is as flush with the post as possible before cinching the chain to the post, running the other end of the chain through the rear wheel, and locking the disc lock with chain to the frame. I used a steel railing in front of Denny's today to lock it up...a slightly tight fit but no problems there. I might have gone with the 4' version except that's a lot of weight to lug around for occasional use...this one does just fine! Besides, I have to carry a cable around for the front wheel so I don't need too much weight!

Storage: While you could probably wrap this around your frame easily if you wanted to (the cover that goes with the chain is not long enough and the exposed chain might scratch the paint) I store mine in my rack bag behind me without any problems.

Overall, worth the money. Gives you more options than using a ulock, and looks imposing too. The only real drawback is that the cover for the keyhole wants to pop open (exposing the cylinder to dust, etc) but since it will be in my bag that's just a minor issue.

4.0 out of 5 stars A little short but a great lock & chain, February 5, 2009

I looked at this one and the 4ft version of the noose and ended up buying the longer one. Why? I can leave the lock & chain at work, so weight isn't the main issue, flexibility in locking options is. The longer chain & lock weighs about 8lbs which is a lot if you add it to your shoulder bag, but not so noticeable in my panniers. Anyway get the noose vs the basic chain because with the larger ring on the end of the chain you have more options for locking as the end's don't have to meet in the middle.

Also this noose gives you more options than a plain Ulock as well. It's a great lock, but think about the longer version if you don't have to carry it far. Or get two locks, one for leaving at home if you have to lock it outside and another lighter one for taking with you.
