This is an excellent product.

Note: Make certain that the application is completely dry before packing your tent; otherwise, when you set-up camp, you'll discover that you've "glued" together surfaces of the fabric that came in contact with each other when the tent was folded. Did this happen to me? Um ... no ... it happened to a friend that TOLD me about it. Ya, that's it ... it happened to a friend (a very dumb friend).

I purchased two cans of this sealer, and used it on my 17-year old Sierra Designs Clip Flashlight 2 ultralight tent. This tent has motorcycle toured western Europe and seen a lot of use.

I set it up with fly in the yard, and did the fly seams, then the fly fabric. After the fly dried I hung it over a clothesline and did the seams inside and out of the tent. And then put the fly back on for it all to dry.

About 4 hours later, we got a thunderstorm. The rain just beaded up and ran off the fly, like water off a duck's back. This stuff is great !

I bought this specifically because it's spray polyurethane, not silicone. Polyurethane is the same compound used to factory waterproof new tents.

I had given up on my old EMS 2 person backpacking tent years ago, the original polyurethane coating had aged significantly and it just wasn't keeping out the moisture like it used to. In its day it was a very high quality tent with 7000 series aluminum alloy shock-corded poles and a full coverage rainfly with integrated vestibule. But no tent, no matter the original quality, is worth anything to a serious outdoors enthusiast if it is no longer waterproof.

No great loss; as I've gotten older I've transitioned from compact backpacking equipment to more spacious car camping gear, including a very nice 4 person freestanding dome tent. But I've recently gotten into adventure touring on a motorcycle, and suddenly needed all that old, lightweight gear to be functional again. It was either chancing $10 on a can of this stuff or invest in a whole new tent. I figured: worth a shot.

Was it ever. Totally restored the waterproofing performance of my aged tent. Nothing magic about how this product works. It just restores the inevitable degradation of the original polyurethane coating. I hung the rain fly on a clothesline inside out, erected the tent body and sprayed this product on the fly and the inside of the tub floor. You definitely want to work outdoors as this stuff smells awful and I can't imagine it's healthy to breathe the fumes. Rest assured the chemical odor completely dissipates after the product has fully dried and had perhaps another couple of hours to fully cure.

When applying, don't gob it on all in one heavy coat, multiple light passes seem to work best.Read more ›

When this product says "use in a well-ventilated area", they aren't kidding. DO NOT apply this indoors, no matter how good you think your bathroom/workroom/etc is ventilated. Take it outside and make sure it is NOT a windy day. Use a sponge to help spread it around (you will not be able to use the sponge for anything else after).

I used this on an umbrella that I embroidered and it made it sound like plastic when you close it now. It does it's job and water doesn't go through at all. It did alter the color slightly and made the purple less bright and it was splotchy looking. I used dish soap to make it less splotchy but it works.

I didn't realize how good this was until I tried to seal my second tent with a normal silicon sealer. The tent still leaked even thoug I soaked the seams. This sealer is a polyurethane and really seals up good. Don't over do it or you will get a run that will dry looking like a run. The one issue there is looks though, it will be sealed up super tight. I've also never had this wear out, lasts for the life of the tent. I would never buy any other kind of tent sealer. Btw, I would not use this on boots or clothes because of the chance for a run you would nt be able to remove and silicon works just fine on those.
