I remember when I was a child my mother always had Bird's Custard Powder in the pantry.
She made a custard sauce for Christmas pudding or thicker and used it for trifle. The taste and texture if wonderful! Some things from your childhood are just as good as you remember only better! Love that you can sweeten it and make it as rich as you like to your own taste. The product is the same as I remembered only the packaging design has changed a little. Great product if you are allergic to eggs and can not eat regular custard made with eggs.

Secret ingredient to the PERFECT Hong Kong style egg puffs. It's basically just a flavored cornstarch, but it was the perfect thing for my eggs puffs. I don't know what it is that it does to the recipe, but it gives it that classic HK style. You must get this if you are making egg puffs! Would probably go great in pancakes or waffles too!!

I love custard, and now I can have it whenever I want. My great grand used to make a pie that we loved called snow pie. OMG, it was the most amazing thing to a 5 year old, she'd make the custard from scratch. I wanted to make custard fruit tarts, custard filled popovers, etc. This is very good. I will keep this in stock. Now, for the first timers like me, before heating it all together on the stovetop, mix the powder/sugar in some of the milk until very smooth, while you put most of the milk in the saucepan on the stove. Once the powder mixture is smooth and well blended, put in the pan on the stove. I like my custard smooth and creamy and kept stirring with a hand whisk. It takes about 3 minutes to start thickening, just keep whisking until you get the way you like. I used whole milk, 4 tbsp. of custard powder, 2 tbsp. of sugar, 2 cups of milk, cooked until thickened took about 10 minutes from measuring to finish. When I tried 2 tbsp. powder/2 tbsp. sugar, it was too sweet.

This is a necessary ingredient in a British family recipe handed down generation to generation, and finding this means I can make the family sherry trifle as needed. Thank you! It is also yummy on its own as a thick pudding.... as a pudding it is best hot.... in the trifle one must cool it before spreading it so as not to melt the jello layer underneath. Yummmmm!

Thank you for this delicious product! I was able to surprise a visiting minister, who lives in Canada with a Canadian treat, Nanaimo bars. I had read about them on Pinterest, an with a little research found they could be made with vanilla pudding, but if you wanted them to taste authentic, you had to have Bird's Custard Powder. The minister and his wife were delighted an said they were delicious and tasted very authentic!
Sorry for the lousy pic, last minute idea!

I tried this custard powder, as Jello stopped making their custard mix, an incredibly bad marketing decision on their part. It's no substitute, though. Tastes just like what it is, a mildly colored and flavored corn starch.

I wanted to make Nanaimo bars for the holidays so went to the regular grocery store for the vanilla custard powder. Finally resorted to looking on Amazon and found it. Made the Nanaimo bars and they are as great as everyone says.

I bought this thinking it would add some creaminess or depth to my bubble waffles, but I can't taste the difference at all - no matter how much I add, it doesn't seem to do anything. Bummer. It basically seems like expensive corn starch. My favorite mix has been Krusteaz Belgian Waffle mix - great lift and flavor (whether or not I add Bird's).
