I bought this because I broke a favorite coffee mug clean in half (diagonally top to bottom), and later the same day my DH broke a large chunk out of the marble handle of his beloved shaving brush. So I went online to research the best glue for china, and found a Real Simple article that recommended this glue -- with detailed instructions on exactly how to use it. After applying the glue, I was able to secure the mug with masking tape; the shaving brush handle required clamping to make the broken surface join really smooth (the tape just didn't hold it firmly enough; glue still oozed out the crack when I pressed it with my fingers, and I could feel the edge of the chip). The next day: Voila! The shaving brush is virtually perfect, and I did a leak test on the mug and it doesn't leak!!! I'm impressed!

Buoyed by my success, I went on to repair the severed heads of some marble chess pieces (whose fate had fallen to the inquisitiveness of some kittens curious about the effects of gravity on marble chess pieces). I was worried at first that this job was too much for the glue, because after holding the pieces together for the requisite minute, the heads fell right off again. But again I secured the pieces with generous amounts of masking tape, and the next morning, they were perfect.

Based on my experience, I highly recommend this glue under these conditions: a clean break; and some way to clamp the item, at least with masking tape, possibly a stronger clamp for some items.

Now I want to search all our little hiding places for broken-glass-objects-that-we-never-knew-how-to-fix-but-couldn't-quite-part-with and start gluing away! Thanks, Elmer's!

This is a phenomenal glue for china. I have been using it for over ten years. Yes, it is difficult to work with. I found pouring a light amount on both edges and holding both pieces together for quite some time helps the opposing surfaces to bind. Once bound, the object is whole. I have china that I bound with this product that I have used in the dishwasher and it holds. It is also safe. This is a great product! I couldn't recommend it more!

I've been using this for years. It's great for fixing porous pottery. The trick is not to shake the tube too much (just one or twice lightly)and to just apply a thin layer on one surface. Put the two pieces together and hold them tightly together for a minute or two. If possible tape the two sides together and leave overnight(you may have to support the object while the glue dries.) Wipe off any excess before it dries. This is not a toxic chemical type of glue. It's milky and thin but fixes pottery like nothing else. I've never tried it with glass.

I followed the directions and this product failed miserably. It looks like and has the consistency of skim milk. They say you can get it to set by holding the parts together for 1 minute. After five minutes it still does not set. So unless you have pieced you can tape together, I can't see this product working at all.

I wish they had been more honest in their instructions and promises. This was a waste of money.

I have been searching desperately for a glue to mend a Lenox candlestick which dropped and broke -- cleanly and in one place. The Elmer's China and Glass Cement -- well, folks, it doesn't work, i.e., it doesn't even pretend to hold the pieces together; they just do not adhere. I was sooo disappointed.

I am trying to glue a handle back on a porcelain sugar bowl, and I bought this at Michaels. The package instructs you to "slowly squeeze adhesive onto surface" - well, this glue is as thin as milk, so there's no "slowly" about it - it gushes out of the tube. Then the instructions say to apply the glue and hold porous pieces together for 15-40 seconds, then allow 16 hours before putting into dishwasher. I held the two pieces together for 15 minutes and they were still as wet as could be, and not set up at all, so I couldn't leave the bowl to set for 16 hours as instructed. I can't clamp or tape the handle while the glue sets, it's just not going to work that way. Waste of money for sure.
I ended up getting Loctite Ultra gel Super glue, which is a nice gel, a very accurate applicator tip, set up right away, and after letting the sugar bowl sit for a day, the handle is firmly stuck on. Don't buy the Elmer's glue, I recommend Loctite.

When my dad was in hospital, I let my 16 y/o daughter cook dinner. The result was two dime size chunks broken on either side of my Bennington Pottery casserole dish. At nearly $80 to replace, I thought I'd give glue a try first. On arrival, the glue clearly states that it is not for high temperature applications. Bummer -- but what's the harm in trying. To my surprise, the glue works great, dries clear and even survived a 350 degree oven. The spot I glued was not a high-stress area, so perhaps that's a contributing factor to note. For my particular application, this glue couldn't be better!

The package claims to set in 1 minute. This is far from the truth! I followed all directions and it took much longer. It took me at least 15 minutes of firmly holding 2 pieces together before it was finally set enough to let go. Some pieces didn't set the first time around and I would have to clean them and repeat. This is a VERY slow drying glue. One piece of advice I can give is it use very little glue. I found it dried much quicker when less was applied. Good luck.
