5.0 out of 5 stars Great success!, August 14, 2007
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
In other words it works great! I'm not sure why this isn't available yet, but here in Canada they're already in stores. Though in limited amounts.

I didn't want to spend money on a wireless router. I don't need one. Most wireless routers under fourty dollars aren't all that great. They're slow and only work half the time. So I opted for the LAN connection instead. As far as I can tell these USB LAN adapters are not an easy thing to find. I looked everywhere when the Wii was first released and couldn't find any. The moment I heard of this I ran out and bought one (the last one in the store for that matter) Now be aware, you can order the official USB LAN adapter made by Nintendo from there website. But as far as I can tell, they look almost identicle. Also, I'm useing a Mac. So Nintendo's USB WiFi hotspot creater doesn't work for me.

When I brought the package home and opened the box, the first thing I did was plug it into my Wii (obviously) The actual adapter is just a small white box with an Ethernet input in the front, below a small blue light. Coming out the back is a 10 inch cord which has a USB connection on the end. The USB simply plugs into the back of your Wii. So I unplugged my Ethernet cord from my Mac, and plugged the cord into the small white box. I turn on my Wii to do a "Connection test." ..."Would you like to update your Wii?" it now says.

I had never had my Wii online, but almost instantly I was connected. The little blue light on the small white box flickered on and off to indicate information was moving. So I updated my system. After the update I started cruising the Wii channels. I checked the Weather channel, the News channel, and the Shop channel. All worked perfectly. I downloaded the just released Metriod channel and it worked fine. So far I've had zero problems.

If you don't have a wireless router, or don't want Nintendo's USB WiFi hotspot creater. Then buy this. It really depends on your setup though. In my case, this is exactly what I needed and it couldn't have worked better.

Update: I've Had it for almost two months. Still works great. Highly recommended for those with limited options

5.0 out of 5 stars Should have been included onboard!, January 7, 2008
By Rob (New Jersey) - See all my reviews
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
After first setting up my wii and then spending about 4 hours trying to connect it to my wireless router, I gave up and purchased this adapter.

The Wii internal wireless was incompatible with my DLink 802.11g router. In order to even get the Wii to partially connect to the Internet, I had to disable wireless encryption and force channel 11 (which is very overused in my apartment complex and was pretty much required by Nintendo support).

After researching why my Wii refused to connect on Nintendo's site I found a page that stated my particular version of my router for some reason unknown to me is incompatible with the Wii even though every other wireless gadget I own even down to a pocket PC works perfectly fine even with security at its maximum.

Deciding that the Nintendo wireless is pretty much useless I purchased this adapter. In 1 minute I was online and working fine ever since. Its also much nicer being wired since I pretty much totally dislike wireless connections.

Nintendo definitely should have included this onboard.

Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
When it comes to the Nintendo Wii, many gamers have wanted to fins the best ways of downloading games from the internet. Although you can definitely get it through a Wi-Fi router, some of them don't do the job, where you'd have to check with Nintendo. While there are also other ways besides router to get you to go online for your favorite downloads. This Lan adapter from Datel, the same company that developed the Action Replay is very simple and easy to install. You simply plug it into the back of your USB ports on the system, and connect it to your cable or DSL modem. Although it is simple to operate. it does a few problems when the system overheats. nevertheless, it is a good buy for anyone who has a broadband connection, and wants to play hard online with the Wii.
