I was really skeptical because of the negative reviews this got, but I had a gift card and figured I could always return it. I am so happy I got it! The negative reviews say that it doesn't work, and when I tried it at first, I thought they were right. The solder just turned a weird pewter color mixed with black splotches. And I may have shouted: "Oh no!"

And then I looked at the directions more carefully...

This stuff works great, but the solder has to be super clean (free of rosin/flux/oxidation) I saw a tutorial online for using this product and it recommended some different products, but I am cheap, so I used some store brand window cleaner with ammonia in it and a dollar store scrub pad to get the rosin/flux off. Then I used some turtle wax, which is what I had at the house, rubbed it on and wiped it off to help with the oxidation. Then I went over the solder with this stuff and it worked beautifully.

So then, I wondered if I had ruined the first piece I had done or if I could fix it, so I did the cleaning steps above (window cleaner and turtle wax) and reapplied the patina solution...and boom, it worked...no more weird pewter color...just a lovely copper. I had a few stubborn black spots left, but I found that if I got a drop of the patina and scrubbed it in with my brush (which is the recommended tool to apply this stuff with...plastic handled paint brush) I could even get the spots to disappear!

So hooray! I hope this helps.

Good product, but let me give you two pieces of advice: 1) Really clean your solder first! It's best if you solder, use flux remover immediately after, and then apply patina immediately after that. Any flux or oxidation on the solder inhibits the ability of the patina to 'take'. 2) Use a plastic handle brush. The instructions tell you that for a good reason. If you don't you end up loosing a bunch of the copper in the patina to the metal handle of your brush reducing the effectiveness of the application.

When done right, you're left with a nice, shiny coper finish. When done half-assed (as I managed to do on my first use), it still looks pretty good, but has more of an aged copper look. Win-win!

This stuff is a mix of copper sulfate and mineral acid (e.g. Sulfuric) and I don't know which acid it is. I have used it successfully as a solution for copper plating small items. However I needed something to turn solder to a copper color. It does not do that with any of the solders I use and I think that is because there is no lead in any of the solders. I know this chemical mix works on lead but it does not seem to work on unleaded solder. If you're doing stained glass and using lead and lead solder it should work fine.

I love the color you get with this patina, it's more difficult to use than the black though. You really need to brush this
copper on with a toothbrush, the more scrubbing you do, the deeper the color you get. Just don't scrub so hard that
you damage the solder and copper foil underneath.

Great liquid for my stain glass hobby. I do a steel wool rubdown of my stain glass projects and they really come out shinny after the copper patina is rubbed over the final project before I use a final wax and rubdown.

I like the versatility of being able to decide the accent color for projects. Sometimes leaving the foil copper really makes the image pop. This patina works great and is easy to use. I'm a beginner at stained glass and had no problem getting great results.

I do some braising on copper using copper/phosphorous braising rods. I had hoped this product would turn the silver solder to ANY shade of copper. It did not change the color at all. Very disappointing.
Service from this vendor was great....prompt delivery!

I give this product five stars because it does the job I require. Puts a dark copper patina on the solder that can be left as is, or buffed slightly to a copper shine that looks like copper welding. Easy application. I use a small amount on a paper towel and rub it in. Have beautiful results. Shipped fast. A reliable company, an excellent product.
