I bought this tool because I needed a small torque wrench when reassembling a KTM 250 EXC RFS motorcycle engine. My interest was in NM settings only not in inch-pounds. The only challenge in setting the proper torque value and locking it in was in discerning the scale gradations. The scale is merely pressed into the metal and not contrast enhanced with dark paint or adhesive so it can be difficult to read for older folks like me. The mechanical operation of setting the torques felt smooth and positive but lacked the sort of "snick - snick" quality feel and sound of similar tools I used long ago when working on Naval nuclear power plants.

The only negative comment is that occasionally while using the tool at lighter settings, e.g., 6 NM, I sometimes felt that the torque applied was inconsistent with the setting. This happened on two occasions that I can remember and each time I backed the setting off to the point of spring disengagement and then reset it and all appeared to be ok. In general there was plenty of feel at the setting point.

There was no calibration plot in the box.

Overall a serviceable tool if you are careful when using and storing it. (Crank the setting down to zero before putting it away.)

I cannot justify a positive review for this product. I had high hopes and was looking forward to receiving it. I needed it for torquing the many small bolts on my transmission pan and knew that accuracy was important.

As for the wrench, I'm currently in an automotive college and compared this Neiko Pro 1/4 inch with several almost new high dollar torque wrenches. The bottom line - this Neiko tightens bolts almost twice as tight as it is registered.

Also, the circular head of the wrench was not cast straight. The Neiko wrench was angled about 5 degrees off. I returned it to Amazon and received a full refund. I suggest you pick a different torque wrench.

This inch-pound torque wrench is a very good value for the money and budget conscious mechanic. While not on the same level as the more expensive tools, it gets the job done just the same. The dual direction ratcheting head is a nice feature. In addition, the micrometer adjustment is nicely done and easy to use. One simply pulls down the locking ring, adjusts to the torque value desired, and then pushes up the locking ring to secure the torque setting. The micrometer adjustment feels a bit rough, but is functional. The overall fit and finish of the tool is above average. The "click" when the torque setting is reached is audible and easily felt through the well designed grip.

I used this to torque the head bolts on my lawnmower engine after I had to replace a blown head gasket. When I put the motor back together, it ran and the head gasket hasn't blown again. I wish I had more projects to use it on.

UPDATE (2-9-12): I also used this on a bicycle rebuild. Again, I was impressed with the quality and feel. It has a good range of settings and I was able to use it for most of the torquing that I needed to do on this project. I have no way to measure the accuracy other than estimating the tightness, but it certainly feels right.

BACKGROUND:
I am a DIYer when it comes to doing (most of) the maintenance on my vehicles and was looking for a couple of torque wrenches to expand my tool box. I was not looking to spend a lot on these wrenches as they would only be used a few times per year but I also didn't want to risk too cheap a tool that may not click when needed and cause expensive damage. I chose the Neiko Pro wrenches due to the relatively low cost, the style of locking/unlocking mechanism and that it is factory tested (at least it has a sticker that says so).

MY EXPERIENCE:
Fit and finish is a step down from other tools that I own (casting marks on ratchet head, not finished with "mirror" chrome). I tried to test the torque wrench immediately out of the box and found that it did not click and I was immediately concerned that it was defective. I re-tried the torque wrench on a higher torque setting and found that it did indeed work. I discovered that when you dial the torque wrench down to the lowest setting (40 inch-lbs) you can feel something disengage inside the wrench which is why it stops working. I would not recommend using this wrench at the lowest setting but it has performed well otherwise. In general, I would recommend that you test the torque wrench at the desired setting (on a lug nut for example) to get a feel for the break over force before you start torquing sensitive bolts.

The other wrench I purchased referred to in this review was the Neiko Pro 3/8 Torque Wrench.

I bought this one to work on my cars. Recently, I've just changed valve cover gasket on my Camry 03 and the torque wrench helps a lot. Give me a confidence that I do not over or under tighten those screws. One thing I notice is the increment in range is 15 in-lb instead of 10 like others. For example, the mark are set like 70, 85, 100,...The fine tuner at the handle therefore is marked 3 times with 0-5. It is a little strange at first but it is easy to figure it out. I like the lock at the handle. To lock and unlock, you just push or pull it out. It looks nice and well built. Definitely you can't compare with expensive tool. This one is good for home project which you only use it occasionally.
I also bought 3/8" torque wrench (Neiko Pro) and 1/2" torque wrench (Pittsburgh Pro) for different torque range. To complete the set, I plan to have a digital torque wrench ($50) to calibrate these tools.
