I just got a new roof and have been finding nails everywhere. When I told the roofing company, they said they use a magnetic sweeper; however, that doesn't get in the flower beds or tight spots. So, I went to Amazon and read reviews to narrow it down between this item and one that claimed to pick up 100 lbs. The reviews weren't as good for the other product so I bought this one and it certainly did a great job -- picked up over 100 nails so far!
Some of the products I considered required me to hold the magnet which meant I would have to get down on my knees or climb a ladder; but this item will fit any standard broom/mop handle.
I contacted the roofing company again and told them about this product -- they are buying several for their crews.

I've read the previous reviews and laughed. People want a perfect product but are only willing to pay for a mediocre product. This product does exactly what it claims.
For starters, the ability to attach a telescoping handle (cheap paint roller extension) was a great idea. I used this magnet head after doing some extensive outdoor home improvement projects. I had found myself wasting too much time trying to track down stray screws and nails. I don't want anyone picking up a rusty old nail or screw while walking in our yard. This tool made it really easy to gather up all the strays at the end of the day. It also found a lost drill bit and a much used countersink drill bit. I like that it wasn't on wheels so I could get it into dirt and debris to dig out the smaller stuff. If you are using this for small home projects it will work fine for you. If you need to clean up a large area such as a jobsite then invest in a bigger, more powerful bar type mounted on wheels. Bottom line is: for less than $10 you get a very handy and usable tool.

This magnet is extremely weak. Great concept, if a higher strength magnet was utilized. It does occasionally pick up steel nails in the grass, but usually some of the nails easily fall off before being collected. This is advertised as holding 65-pounds. My thoughts are that the tested object must have been submerged in water. It was less than nine bucks, so I am giving it 3-stars, but it cannot be compared to powerful magnets I have used in the past, where it was a challenge to remove nails from the magnet. The average rating is currently ~4.3-stars, so perhaps I received a defective one.

didnt handle a fall off a 1 story roof into grass.

the adjustability is cool, the screw on is cool, the magnet itself 'lets go' of the nails sometimes when im working in the grass, but does ok.
if you arent into fixing broken products and improving on them, i'd steer clear of this.
needs more r&d
