I needed some good quality stainless screws to be used outside near the ocean. Screws appear to be well made and are fairly hard (some stainless hardware is relatively soft). The plastic package didn't identify the grade or quality of stainless steel and the screws have just the number 4 stamped on their heads. The description at Amazon suggests they are austenitic so I had assumed they were the common 304 grade of stainless. However, they didn't look like typical 304 screws and were quite magnetic - this suggested that they were either non-stainless, or had been cold-worked enough to increase the magnetic permeability, or they were ferritic or martensitic (as opposed to austenitic) stainless. Because I hate doing a job twice, I tested these screws: after cutting them to ensure they weren't just coated, I let one sample soak in a saltwater bath for a week and let another soak in acetic acid. I'm happy to report that neither showed any corrosion (while my control non-stainless items were extremely rusted). Even though I still don't know what grade these are, they appear sufficiently corrosion resistant to suit my needs.

These screws work very well if a pilot hole is provided prior to putting them in if one is working with sheet metal. They are a quality product, with no burrs, no seconds, and every one is exactly the same.

I found these decent for attaching downspout strapping into expansion plugs in masonry. My other project involved securing rubber to thick plastic. For both projects, plastic and lead, aluminum, no pre-drilling, screws went right in with little torque, heads did not round off. I should have ordered another few bags of these. I don't know how they'd be in heavier gauge metal. With all self drilling screws, for that, I'd recommend a pilot hole or at least a punch. We'll see in the next round. :) Good deal. Could not buy this quantity for this value at local stores.

I just did a magnetic test on them and they reacted the same as steel screws! At first I was annoyed, but them I read some comments and also did some research on the internet. The hardening process can cause stainless steel fasteners to become magnetic.

These are quality fasteners and for these at a reasonable price!

Twice I ordered these and twice I received brass, roundhead woodscrews. Sent the first order back, but when I received the same thing the second time, decided that it wasn't worth the hassle.

Great buy on stainless self tapping screws. These should hold up better than zinc coated ones and although a little more expensive this particular supplier has excellent prices for the stainless ones.

These babies are tough, screwed them right into some 3/8" steel pipe no problem. And they will no rust! So, combine that with a coil of SS baling wire and you have repairs that look classy and last!

recieved today had 15 screws in box due to the lack of them placing the screws in a bag of sorts. just a little fyi if ya ship screws put them in a bag instead of a loose box.......
