This speaker control unit seems to work as intended so far. The problems of which you should be aware:

1. There is a button on the front along with the speaker buttons that says "Protection" but there is not a single word in the brief manual as to what it is supposed to do. I will search their Web site and if I find out, I will post it here as an addendum.
2. There are two oversized screws on the bottom front near the rubber legs, both of which jut out about 1/8" (the sharp pointed end of the screws) and you can easily scratch/cut a finger in handling this unit.
3. Another sign that not much thought was put into the user manual is the obvious mis-spellings that could have been fixed by use of a simple spell-checker. VERY MINOR, I admit, but it shows the lack of professionalism that is responsible for the other problems.

UPDATE 03142013 - I finally got an answer (after a week or more) from Pyle about the Protection button. Here is the response: "We are currently working to correct the issues with our manuals and your input is appreciated. When the Protection button is engaged, the impedance matching circuitry allows you to safely use multiple speaker pairs simultaneously without overloading or damaging your amplifier or speakers." and when I questioned that, here is their additional response: "If the protection button is not depressed and you are using more than one set of speakers this will drop the impedance and could put stress on the amplifier. Often times customers will use this switcher to send audio to different zones. Instead of using all or multiple outputs at the same time, you can send the signal out to one set of speakers and then make a switch to another. When using just a single set, there is no need for the protection mode."
I am still not clear on it, but there it is for your benefit.

The amazon description, and the box of the product states "handles 100 watts per channel".
This is peak output watts (meaningless).
Amplifiers are rated at continuos watts or watts R.M.S.
Page 6 of the included manual: audio power hanling 50 watts (R.M.S.)/ch.

There is no information in the manual as to what the "protection" button does.
It does not correct the impedance load for multipal speakers used together.
If you play more than one set of speakers at a time, the impedance drops.
1 pair 8 ohms
2 pair 4 ohms
3 pair 3.1 ohms
4 pair 2.4 ohms

This is a great unit. For the past year my stereo speakers on the Patio/Pool area we cutting out when the amplifier was at less than ½ volume. This was extremely annoying since the volume from the speakers was not very loud. I am running heavy gauge wire and everything is dry and protected from the outside elements other than the humidity. After using the Pyle speaker selector and having since added a third set of speakers, I can now turn the volume to full capacity without the speakers shutting off. (Obliviously there is distortion at that level and do not actually run them that high) Problem solved and for less than $35.00.

Only one small complaint: I wish the inputs in the speaker selector would accept larger diameter wire. I am using 16 gauge and it's a pretty tight fit. I would prefer to use 12 or 14 gauge for the longer runs but I don't think they will fit.

Sturdy, positive action on the buttons. The buttons are in when selected and out when not so at a glance you can tell what is selected. My older box the buttons would click when switched but the button would remain out. You would have to go from room to room to tell what was on.
The connectors on the rear are OK when using 14 AWG wire as the wire just fits. 12 AWG wire is out of the question. The issues with the manual and no description of the function of the protection button are covered in other reviews. The protection button puts about 3 ohm in series with the amplifier's red input so even if the speakers totaled 0 ohms (a short) the amplifier will see 3 ohms minimum.
NOTE: When all of the buttons are out (nothing selected) the amplifier sees an open. Some amplifiers, especially if the volume is cranked up, may be damaged if driven hard without a load. It is best to turn down the volume before switching or at least avoid nothing selected. As an example select B before deselecting A.

The Pyle PSS4 is very easy to set up and use. The box is small enough to fit into a tight environment, but big enough to allow easy speaker connections and large, well-spaced buttons for selecting speakers. The protection circuitry reduces volume when enabled, and it is convenient to select or de-select this feature. I am only running two pairs of small speakers from the unit, off the A channel of my receiver, and never at high volume, so I have left the protection circuitry off. In that state, speaker volume is equivalent to the volume on the single pair of speakers that I run directly off the B channel. If your receiver puts out no more than 100 watts/channel (the maximum rating for this selector), then the Pyle PSS4 is a very cost-effective and nicely constructed solution.

I used this selector along with a new Kenwood car stereo to replace the old outdated stereo in my camper. It took some wood working and a little imagination, but it worked out great. Now I use the speaker selector to run all three pairs of my speakers on the camper. With this product I can listen to all three sets at a time, two sets at a time, or just one set. Makes it nice when we're hanging out by the campfire and just want to hear the outdoor speakers while the kids watch a movie inside the camper.I highly recommend to any camper and will gladly show pictures of how I did it. Ditch that dinosaur of a Magadyne and start enjoying music while you're camping.
