These are sturdy, clamp well and inexpensive. They seem very sturdy for around the house jobs. The teeth on them has not worn off yet so that's good. Usually with vice grips it is the teeth that get smoothed off after use. Good thing is that these are not that expensive so that that it would be easy to replace. Still, they lock well and do the job great

I bought these because vise grips are a necessary thing to have in your toolbox. If you're serious about doing work around the house or on your car you need a pair of vise grips, they come in handy for rounded nuts, odd shaped things, holding things that need held with a locking jaw, and other applications that require very strong grips. I used them most recently to get a bolt out of my tire.

I've used these now a few times. They grip well and they're easy to tighten up. They seem to do the job very nicely. I think the price is right as well... They're not quite as nice as real US made Irwin (the inventor of vise grips), which my dad has a ton of, but they're good enough... They feel a little cheaper. Other than that they get the job done, and they're a great value for your money, like the other Tekton tools I have.

Like I said above... They work, but the fit and finish isn't perfect, they just look and feel a bit rough. They seem like they'll hold up to what I throw at them though. I only knocked one star off because the locking/tightening mechanism works well enough so the cosmetic issues don't impact the functionality. They're definitely a lot nicer than the Harbor Freight sets that are 3.99 for 3 pliers, so if you were thinking about going to Harbor Freight for these don't bother, just buy the Tekton the extra few bucks will be worth it to avoid all the plastic on the Harbor Freight version...

I'm likely going to buy a couple more pairs of the smaller ones in the near future as it's always good to have more vise grips around.

These are cheap pliers. But they work! Occasionally they pop apart when opening, and I have to stop and put them back together. Normally I'd give any tool I fight a ★☆☆☆☆ review. But they've never actually failed to do a job. They stay together when clamped shut. And the price was very good (at least when I go them). Bottom line: if you're looking for a tool to do a one-off job, these are good enough. You'll get what you pay for, but sometimes you save money by saving money.

Tekton's got (in my opinion) some serious quality control issues with the 3719 6" long nose locking pliers. I ordered eight of them a week or so ago (August 2015) to include in tool sets I'm assembling as high school and college graduation gifts. Fortunately, I decided to remove the pliers from the plastic product/packaging cards they were each attached to (secured by two, black zip-tie style plastic fasteners) before including them in the tool kits.

Of the eight pair of pliers I received, I've had to return six pair that all suffered (to greater or lesser degrees) from an alarming variety of defects. Three pair did not function at all and turning the adjustment screw did nothing and the locking mechanism flopped around and would neither engage nor disengage -- in one case because the bar that it's supposed to impact wasn't secured in the handle/slot and while I'm unsure what the issue was with the other two -- as I couldn't see a problem with the springs on either of those -- they wouldn't operate properly (or at all) either.

On close inspection, there was evidence of some sort of discoloration and what appeared to be corrosion on and around the rivets/hinges of the tool and there were small, but clearly visible areas of orange rust visible on several pair. While it wasn't possible to tell (without tearing them apart), it's possible that the metal inside the hinged portions of the tool may be rough/corroded and therefore stick or seize up against other parts of the tool and that's preventing them from operating properly. But... speculation!

Bottom line is -- I neither expect, nor want to to see rust on brand new tools -- and especially not on tools I intend giving as gifts -- and that's just not acceptable.

When I want a tool for whatever reason, if it is a tool commonly used by most everybody it is likely been duplicated in quality materials by Tekton.

For this reason my search always begins with the Tekton brand name and then the description.

Tekton locking pliers unlike others are servicable long enough to be liberated by others. I paint them with RUSTOLEUM SAFETY YELLOW paint and that seems to help in keeping them from walking away but also it also helps me find them when they are out of place.

I buy this tool in quantities of 5 to 10 at a time as I manufacture almost everything I need in structural steel and locking pliers of every description keeps things in place for drilling and welding. Accidents on the welding table are going to happen and sometimes the plier has to be cut away. The cost of this is minimal compared to other pliers that are far inferior.

If I only owned one tool it would be a Tekton locking plier. Some things like book shelves on the welding table look like porcupines with 30 or so locking pliers and clamps making sure that the final result is the same as the setup. Sometimes a plier shape that does not exist needs to be created.

A $400 Weber carb with a bent air horn needed to be reshaped. Cast aluminum is usually only good for one bend and two if you get it right the first time. I determined and created the correct radius inside and outside and with those shapes on one of the good corners held with a Tekton locking plier I welded the forming shapes to the plier. The next move was to lock the new tool onto the damaged corner and duplicated the correct shape the first time and saved the carb. Other pliers are generally too sloppy to do this.
