I needed to replace the power steering pump on my 2005 Chevy Colorado Z71, so I got to looking around for a quality pump at decent price. It used to be that you could pick up a good power steering pump, water pump, alternator, and just about every other engine driven accessory for less than 50 bucks. Now they all cost you over $100, even for re-manufactures, and they are hard to get to and replace. I found this re-man'd pump for $70 w/ the reservoir so I jumped on the deal and purchased it. It was the cheapest one with the reservoir from a company that I trusted with their rebuild capabilities. I have gotten Cardone parts in the past and never had a major issue with any of them, and they have usually lasted longer than the original OEM part. I wanted to get one with the reservoir because the pump was leaking and slinging P/S fluid all over my engine bay, but I was not sure exactly what was leaking on it, so to be safe I got the full replacement. It came packaged really well, with all the ports capped off with plastic Cap/Plugs, and had a small amount of what I assume was preservation fluid in it to keep it from corroding on the shelf. I pulled the pulley off the old one first because the bolts are behind it and are really hard to get to with the pulley on. Then I removed the 3 mount bolts and the pressure and return lines from the bottom, and pulled it out. Some times you have to swap out fittings and such from the old to the new one, but this one had everything already installed in it, other than the pulley and fill cap, so it was as simple as just putting it back in the reverse of what I took the old one out.Read more ›
