After noticing my dog favoring alternate hind legs, I took her to my local vet who referred us to a vet hospital 60 miles away. They took x-rays & found she had arthritis in her hip joints.Due to her age, surgery was not an option.Doc recommended Cosequin DS.She has been taking it for 2 1/2 yrs.She is now 12 yrs. old & acts half her age.I can not say enough about how it has helped her arthritis.

It is a great product. I have a 9 yr old pitbull and she is developing arthritis in her back legs. I asked my vet which product i should go with since there are so many different glucosamine choices in a variety of price ranges. He told me i should go with Consequin. He said not only will it help the problem that is present but it is a good idea to use as a preventative before the arthritis even develops. Its like a lubricant for the joints.

The only problem for us, is that i noticed my girl develop a skin allergy to it. It took a few weeks for me to realize it was from the glucosamine. Pitbulls are known to have very sensitive skin and are prone to skin allergies, but luckily she has never had this problem before. I did a little research and found that glucosamine is made from shellfish - so for some dogs an allergy can occur. I just purchased a vegetarian glucosamine supplement in powder form. Im planning on sprinkling it in her canned food and hoping she will eat it without a problem and can benefit from it.

Hope my experience can help someone. If not for the allergy - its a great product.

The capsules are great bc I found out that chews and tablet form of joint supplements have brewers yeast in them which is an APPETITE STIMULANT. we'd unknowingly been giving out overweight cattle dog them. My husband usually deals w getting her supplements and I gave her a tablet one day and smelled the brewers yeast. We felt really bad bc we've been giving her joint supplements for over a year and she's a spayed, food driven dog anyway.

Since I don't take it I rely on my pet to give me the paws-up or down. Whether this stuff really works or not is just a guess but my vet says yes and my dog is happier with it than without it so, she gets it. Depends alot on how far you are willing to go for your pet in terms of cost, etc. If you splurge on yourself occasionally then you should do fhe same for your pet(s).

I have had my dog on Cosequin for a while now. My12 year old dog was doing wonderfully until I let some time pass and she was off it for about a month. I had no idea it was helping her as much as it was because during that month she slowly started limping, and had trouble getting up. I immediately order more and since then not a day goes by with out it. To prove how much Cosequin works, just last week I let her out in the back yard, she started darting back and forth in the leaves, ran full strength across the yard and jumped over a 3 foot high fence! This dog couldn't get up from a sitting position just a couple months before! I have not seen any side effects at all so I think this is a wonderful product all around. I always go through Amazon to buy it, they are the cheapest I have found.

Before Cosequin my cat would limp really badly, the poor guy moved like he was walking in molasses. Now, with Cosequin, there is hardly any limp, he can jump up on his cat tree and is definitely enjoying life more. He is a really big cat (no, not fat, just really big) so he gets canine Cosequin (with his vets permission). It has the same ingredients as the cat version (except for the flavoring) but one canine capsule is a lot cheaper than 4 cat capsules. My cat is kind of a picky eater, but does not mind eating the Cosequin at all (dog or cat version) sprinkled on and then mixed in his wet food. So, if your older pet is limping, have him/her checked out at the vet and then don't think twice about starting them on Cosequin. The spring will be put back into their step.

So my whippet was diagnosed 5 years ago with arthritis on his limbs. He's 15 now. He used to lick his ankles or knees a lot. I sprinkle a capsule every day (for 5 years now) over his meal and licking or limping have become extremely rear. It must be used for a prolonged length of time and never interrupted. It works.

I got this for my cat. She was a little less spry than usual and the vet recommended Cosequin for cats, which I bought for her. She showed incredible improvement...started jumping on the couch again and didn't act so tender in the hips...but it was so EXPENSIVE. I looked at the bottles and doses, and figured I can sprinkle about a cap a week from the dog version, get her close to the dose and save a lot of money. For the past year, it has been working great.
